Calls Mount for Giants To ‘Cut’ or Bench Russell Wilson After Jaxson Dart’s Standout Performance

Jaxson Dart's solid game against the Buffalo Bills already has New York Giants fans frothing at the mouth for him to be the starting quarterback.

Jaxson Dart had a nice game against the Buffalo Bills.

After Russell Wilson led one steady, unremarkable drive, the New York Giants’ first-round draft pick went 12 for 19 with 154 passing yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. He made no glaring mistakes, kept his eyes downfield, stepped up in the pocket, and used his legs to get yardage on a broken play.

Not a bad start to the preseason.

Is It Too Early for the Dart Hype?

Dart’s performance had to make head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen feel pretty good. They traded three picks to move back up into the first round to get the first-team All-SEC quarterback from Ole Miss.

Dart’s shown out in camp, but Daboll has been adamant that Wilson will be the team’s starting quarterback.

Coming on the heels of Dart’s performance, some Giants fans strongly beg to differ.

Giants Fans Are Chomping at the Bit for More Jaxson Dart

One fan cut to the chase: “Cut Russell Wilson. Embrace Jaxson Dart.”

Another fan took a more fatalistic approach: “I’ve seen enough … cut Russell Wilson and let Jaxson Dart play if he sucks wtf does it matter anyway?”

There was even some input from impartial fans who don’t root for the Giants: “Jaxon Dart should start for the Giants. I know Wilson will but Dart is the future. I am not a Giants fan.”

One fan is incredulous that there isn’t a quarterback competition: “How they decided on Russ Wilson over Dart to be QB1 blows my mind.”

One fan enthusiastically pointed out the differences between Wilson and Dart’s play styles: “I’m sorry but Russell Wilson has NO BUSINESS seeing a snap as the starter in NY this year. 6 of 7 for 28 yards in a preseason game??? The dude is a check down king. You have a talented rookie in Dart or Jameis who EVERYONE wants to see. Russ is absolutely not the answer.”

Another fan suggests that Dart just passes the eye test: “Dart looks a lot better than Wilson did. He offers the Giants much more at QB than Russ does. Russ might not be the starter for long.”

Another comparison was made between what happened with the Giants and Dart and what happened in New England with Drake Maye: “The Jaxon Dart situation will likely play out similarly to Drake Maye last year. The team says they want to sit him all year, but once the Giants are sitting at 2-6 and the fans will be clamoring for Dart, their hand will be forced. Russell Wilson’s leash won’t be long.”

Finally, someone wondered why the Giants would sign two veteran quarterbacks if they were targeting a rookie all along: “I still don’t understand why the Giants signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston and drafted Jaxon Dart. It seems like a misuse of resources.”

Dart showed poise and was clearly sharp. He’s showing he has a lot to build on, but it might be time to pump the brakes on anointing him the starter. It’s still early in the preseason, and the true test of a quarterback comes when they have to perform in the regular season.

That being said, Dart looked pretty good.
