The NFL world was rocked on Monday when two massive trades were completed involving superstars. Myles Garrett was dealt to the Los Angeles Rams and A.J. Brown was shipped to the New England Patriots.
The Garrett trade was a total surprise, but the Brown trade was expected for a while. Brown seemed unhappy with the Philadelphia Eagles, and the writing was on the wall that he would be moved. The Patriots ultimately sent a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round selection to Philly for Brown.
Now that Brown is officially a Patriot, more details are emerging about his love for the organization… even during his time in Philadelphia.
A.J. Brown Discusses His Patriots Fandom
Brown sat down with Maria Taylor to discuss the trade to the Patriots, and he brought up an interesting fact about a rug in his house. Brown mentioned he has had a Patriots rug in his house for “a few years now, it’s been here for a while.”
Taylor seemed taken aback by the fact that Brown had a Patriots rug in his house while being a member of the Eagles, but he responded, “You know, some things just never change. This is my team, my team since I was a kid.”
AJ Brown tells @MariaTaylor he has had a #Patriots rug in his house for a few years — even while he was with the Eagles.
“This is my team. This is my team since I was a kid. I was doing what I was supposed to be doing with the Eagles, but this is it.”

However, that comment did not land well with some Eagles fans and analysts, and many in the NFL world were surprised to hear this.
“Like, is this not weird,” said one Eagles influencer. Another Eagles content creator argued that Brown was an ‘Undercover opp the entire time.”

This is a strange thing for Brown to admit, as most players stop supporting their childhood team once they enter the NFL and join a different franchise.
However, Brown has always done things differently, and this is just another example.
“This is diabolical,” one user wrote. “Eagles fans I get it now.”

Many Eagles fans are rightfully outraged by this, and PFSN shared a hilarious meme summing up their frustration.

Many Eagles fans are not sad to see Brown go because of his strained relationship with quarterback Jalen Hurts and the way he acted last season.
It will be interesting to see how things play out for Brown in New England. Last season, the Patriots advanced to the Super Bowl and Drake Maye finished as the NFL MVP runner-up, and now they have seemingly upgraded their passing attack by adding a true WR1.
Last year, Brown posted a WR Impact Score of 80.9, which ranked 21st in the NFL. In 2024, Brown was the third-best WR in the NFL with a WRi grade of 91.4.
Now, the star receiver gets a chance to live out a childhood dream of suiting up for his favorite team.
