Adam Thielen Officially Announces NFL Retirement in 2026 Offseason

The conclusion of each NFL season also marks the end of some careers, including when any player decides to announce their retirement. With this year now in the second round of the playoffs, a prominent wide receiver of an eliminated team made his choice that this was his final campaign.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared the news that Adam Thielen officially announced his retirement just two days after the Pittsburgh Steelers were defeated by the Houston Texans in the Wild Card round of this year’s playoffs. He joined the Steelers late in the 2025 season and apparently decided that he doesn’t want to come back for another year. Thielen shared his thoughts on social media.

“What a ride it has been! 13 years, what a blessing! Have been blessed with so many great relationships and mentors over the years that I am forever grateful for! Thank you to everyone who has supported me through the years, it has meant everything to my family and I,” stated Thielen.

Thielen made his NFL debut in 2014 with the Minnesota Vikings and spent the majority of his career with the team. His two best seasons came in 2017 and 2018, when he exceeded 1,000 yards in each of them. He was also selected to the Pro Bowl Icon both years and earned second-team All-Pro honors for one of them.

He spent nine consecutive seasons with the Vikings before joining the Carolina Panthers for two years. He recorded his third 1,000-yard season with them and also his second 100-reception season. The Vikings then brought him back in 2025, but before the season was over, they parted ways, allowing him to join the Steelers for a hopeful playoff run.

They did appear in the postseason, but failed to win a game, which would mark the last one in Thielen’s NFL career. He recorded just 186 yards in his final year, but impressively finished 12th in PFSN’s Impact Rankings in the season before.

This proves his success in several different situations, but he will surely be remembered most for his solid run with the Vikings.
