Iga Świątek recently expressed her astonishment at the heatwave sweeping through London ahead of her first match at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships. Świątek also shared the consequences she has faced due to the extreme temperatures.
This year, the London Major began on Jun. 30 and will go on until July 13, 2025. The matches are being played at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London.
Iga Świątek Reacts to Practicing in Extreme Hot Weather at Wimbledon
Świątek competed most recently at the 2025 Bad Homburg Open and was seeded fourth in the WTA 500 tournament. She began her campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye.
The former World No. 1 triumphed over qualifier Victoria Azarenka, eighth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, and second seed Jasmine Paolini to reach the final. There, she went up against the top seed, Jessica Pegula, and finished as the runner-up after losing 6-4, 7-5.
Since her runner-up finish in Bad Homburg, Świątek has travelled to London for the Wimbledon Championships. She recently took to social media to share a video of herself wringing out her practice top, drenched in sweat from the intense heat. In her caption, she conveyed her shock at the sweltering weather conditions in London.
“@wimbledon what’s with this weather? 😱 London, is that you? 😅,” Świątek captioned her Instagram story.
During a pre-tournament press conference at Wimbledon, Świątek stated that competing in Bad Homburg before the Grand Slam has helped her improve her skills on grass.
“So far, it’s the best one that I’ve had. I had a really great time in Bad Homburg and enjoyed it. Also, having more time to practice before on grass really helped. So I feel that I have a little bit more skills,” Świątek said.

The former World No. 1 also mentioned that facing top players at the WTA 500 event has given her “extra experience” and “momentum to go forward” ahead of the Wimbledon Championships.
“Just having the experience of playing a few matches before, the same as in 2023, it gives you more confidence. You just have to get through some situations on the court and give yourself the extra experience and kind of momentum to go forward. So I’m really happy I had the opportunity to play there, and I played the top players, so it gives a lot,” she added.
Świątek To Face Polina Kudermetova at Wimbledon
Świątek is seeded eighth at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships and will begin her campaign by facing Kudermetova in the first round.
Last year, at the grass court Grand Slam, Świątek had triumphed over the likes of Sofia Kenin and Petra Martić in the first and second rounds, respectively, before losing to Yulia Putintseva in the third round.
Leading up to Wimbledon this year, Kudermetova competed in the 2025 Libéma Open, where she lost to her sister, Veronika Kudermetova, with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-3 in the first round.
The upcoming match between Świątek and Kudermetova will be their first encounter on the WTA Tour. The winner will advance to the second round, where they will face either Caty McNally or wild card entrant Jodie Burrage.
