The second edition of the US Open’s revamped mixed doubles event is underway, featuring a 16-team field with star pairings such as Serena Williams-Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka-Novak Djokovic. With $1 million on the line for the champions, the event will take place during Fan Week and feature a fast-paced, two-day format.
Here’s everything you need to know about the matchups, rounds, and schedule before the Round of 16 action begins today (August 25).
US Open 2026 Mixed Doubles: Full Draw, Teams, Format, Rules, Scoring and Schedule
From the Round of 16 through the semifinals, matches will feature short sets, with four games required to win a set. The best-of-three format will also use no-ad scoring. If the teams split the first two sets, a 10-point match tiebreak will decide the winner, with a two-point advantage needed.
However, the Wednesday final will use a different format, with sets played to six games in a best-of-three match.
The main draw features 16 teams, with six earning direct entry based on their combined singles rankings. Eight receive wild cards, and two get through an eight-team qualifier. The field includes star pairings such as top seeds Sabalenka and Djokovic, who are making their official mixed doubles debut together, although they have played an exhibition match together in 2024.
Alcaraz is teaming up with Williams, while defending champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, Americans Jessica Pegula and Taylor Fritz, and married couple Elina Svitolina and Gaël Monfils are also in the draw.
Meanwhile, Frances Tiafoe withdrew from the mixed doubles event after reaching the final in Cincinnati, leaving his partner Leylah Fernandez without a chance to face Sabalenka and Djokovic. Iga Świątek also pulled out of mixed doubles to focus on her singles campaign.

The four remaining teams will then play the semifinals and final on Wednesday, August 26.
The event offers $1 million per team to the winners and $500,000 to the runners-up. The semifinalists will earn $250,000, while quarterfinalists receive $120,000. First-round losers will take home $40,000, while teams eliminated in the second and first qualifying rounds will earn $20,000 and $10,000, respectively. The total prize pool is $2.88 million.
Early-round matches will be telecast on ESPN2, with the final rounds moving to ESPN.
