‘It’s So Mentally Draining’ – Jessica Pegula Reveals the Truth Behind Keeping Away From Her Team While on Tour

Jessica Pegula, who is an ambassador for World of Hyatt, explained why she stays at a different hotel rather than the players' hotel while on tour.

Jessica Pegula recently explained her decision to stay at a different hotel rather than the players’ hotel while on tour. Pegula, who became an ambassador for World of Hyatt earlier this year, expressed that she finds comfort in maintaining her distance from the team and appreciates time alone.

In addition to her partnership with World of Hyatt, Pegula is also sponsored by Adidas, Yonex, Ready Nutrition, and Stella Artois, among others.

Jessica Pegula Reveals Reason for Staying Away From Tournament Hotel Experience

During an interview with Tennis.com, Pegula stated that being away from everyone during tournaments is a “massive thing” for her, so she chooses not to stay at the players’ hotel.

“Oh my gosh, being away from everyone else is a massive thing for me. I think that’s what maybe sparked this, as well. I just felt like, ‘I can’t do [player hotels] anymore!’” Pegula said.

The World No. 3 described the accommodations provided by the tournament as “mentally draining.” She then clarified that it isn’t due to any individual but rather because she wants to avoid encountering the people she works with and sees almost every day during the tennis season while trying to relax or enjoy breakfast, among other things.

“When you’re staying at a tournament hotel, I feel like it’s so mentally draining. It’s not like anyone is a problem. But if you were going to work with someone, you wouldn’t necessarily want to eat breakfast with them, practice with them, be in the gym, have lunch, go to the locker room and the physio room with them, and then see them in all the elevators and the hallways,” she continued.

Pegula mentioned that for her own comfort and mental well-being, she prefers to stay in a different hotel, which allows her to recharge during tournaments.

“I don’t think people realize that shouldn’t happen, not with the people you’re working and competing with every single week. We play pretty much every week together, and so, all of that together, you’re ready to lose it!” she added.

On the tennis side of things, Pegula is currently competing at the 2025 Bad Homburg Open. She is the top seed at the tournament and began her campaign in the second round after receiving a bye in the first round. She defeated qualifier Kateřina Siniaková in her opening match, winning 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Who Will Jessica Pegula Face Next at Bad Homburg Open 2025?

Following her win over Siniaková in the second round of the 2025 Bad Homburg Open, Pegula is set to face compatriot and fifth seed Emma Navarro in the quarterfinals.

Navarro kicked off her campaign at the WTA 500 grass court event with a win against Marta Kostyuk in the first round, triumphing in straight sets with a scoreline of 6-2, 7-5. She defeated Wild Card Naomi Osaka in the second round, again in straight sets, with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-4, securing her place in the quarterfinals against Pegula.

Pegula and Navarro met only once on the WTA Tour, in the fourth round of the 2024 Miami Open, where World No. 3 emerged victorious with a score of 7-6(1), 6-3.

The winner of the quarterfinal match between Pegula and Navarro will advance to the semifinals, where they will face either third seed Mirra Andreeva or Linda Nosková.

Following the WTA 500 event, Pegula will turn her attention to the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, which will take place from Jun. 30 to Jul. 13, 2025, at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London.

Pegula’s best performance at the London Major came in 2023 when she reached the quarterfinals. During that tournament, she secured victories over Lauren Davis, Cristina Bucșa, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, and Lesia Tsurenko before being defeated by the eventual champion, Markéta Vondroušová, in the last eight.
