Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese faced relentless online criticism following a rough shooting performance during Friday’s loss to the Portland Fire.
Social media erupted with fans calling her play embarrassing as she struggled offensively and missed multiple opportunities near the rim.
WNBA Fans Blast Angel Reese Over Rough Shooting Night and Missed Layups in Dream Loss
The Dream came into Friday night’s matchup against the Fire expecting a strong performance from Reese. The 24-year-old is enjoying a stellar season in Atlanta, breaking rebounding records and consistently powering the team’s frontcourt.
However, Friday turned into a rough night on the floor. Reese struggled near the rim, shooting just 5-of-14 from the field while committing four turnovers and missing nine layups.
Those offensive struggles made it tough for Atlanta to stay competitive, resulting in a 101-83 loss to the Fire.

Once lowlight clips from the game began circulating on X, fans rushed in with harsh critiques. One user demanded she be taken off the floor, writing:
“Get that girl off the court! She’s a disgrace for the entire basketball sport”

Another user made fun of her for trying to handle the ball more often.
“Now she thinks she’s a point guard. Therefore, she now gets blocked by point guards. An absolute disgrace,” they wrote.

One fan went as far as calling her play the worst player they had witnessed, writing:

One critic pointed out that her media attention relies heavily on her rebounding numbers rather than her shooting efficiency.
“And all the media will talk about is the rebounds. She lacks far too much skill to be a star basketball player,” they commented.
One fan brought up broader league debates while mocking the game performance, writing:
“This is beyond embarrassing. And they want pay increases?!? For playing this slop!? 😂”
On top of the tough loss and internet backlash, the game almost ended with a suspension for Reese. She received a fourth-quarter technical foul after getting tangled up under the rim. Under WNBA rules, an eighth technical foul triggers an automatic one-game ban.
Fortunately for Atlanta, the WNBA reviewed the play on Saturday and officially rescinded the technical foul, keeping her total at seven.
That decision means Reese will avoid the suspension and stay on the floor for the Dream’s next game against the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday as they push toward the postseason.
