The headlines seem to follow Deion Sanders wherever he goes, as was the case when the Colorado Buffaloes coach visited his son, Shedeur, at the Cleveland Browns’ training camp last month.
Coach Prime, of course, is always keeping a close eye on what’s going on in Cleveland. After his son lost the QB1 battle, Sanders decided to chime in on the Browns going with Deshaun Watson.
Deion Sanders Addresses Shedeur Sanders’ Browns Situation
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Coach Prime issued a short, loaded comment in response to Shedeur’s situation in Cleveland.
“We all know what’s transpiring with Shedeur; we all know he’s playing extremely well,” Coach Prime said.
Browns head coach Todd Monken’s decision to overlook Sanders in favor of Watson as the team’s starter has become the talk of the NFL.
Watson has a contentious relationship with the Browns fans and was booed during their second preseason game against the Buffalo Bills last weekend. Watson responded by blasting the franchise’s fans during his postgame news conference, before ultimately issuing an apology, outlining just how messy the situation is.

Fans and analysts have theorized that the only reason Watson won the job was due to the quarterback’s mammoth, fully guaranteed, five-year, $230 million contract.
In a clip posted on X, former Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III was adamant that the decision to overlook Sanders in favor of Watson was not Monken’s.
“There are $230 million reasons why Deshaun Watson is the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns,” Griffin said. “It’s his contract. Period. Haslam already came out and said it was a huge swing and a miss on Deshaun Watson this offseason, last year. Why is he starting? $230 million reasons.
“I believe it was the ownership group and the executive group that said, ‘He is gonna be our starter, and if he doesn’t do it, we’re gonna bring Shedeur in. Shedeur’s gonna play, and if Shedeur proves that he can be the guy, we won’t draft a quarterback next year. But if Shedeur doesn’t, then we’re gonna draft a quarterback next year.’

Sanders had to fight adversity after sliding to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The former Buffs quarterback started the season as the Browns’ third-choice quarterback behind Dillon Gabriel and Joe Flacco before climbing the depth chart and finishing the year as the team’s starter.
Shedeur earned the league’s second-worst PFN QB Impact score of 63.0 after tallying 1,400 passing yards on 56.6% completion, 7 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He led the Browns to a 3-4 record as a starter.
