Since training camp got underway, the San Francisco 49ers have had a rough go of things. Injuries have kept popping up on the roster, delaying their momentum for the start of the season. But now, they’ve also been hit with a huge scandal.
Their longtime owner, Jed York, was charged and subsequently arrested in East Palestine, Ohio, earlier this week. As bodycam footage of the arrest made its way online, fans were stunned by how it all played out.

The incident came to light when York was charged with misdemeanor counts of engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools. However, as part of the plea agreement, the former was reduced to disorderly conduct.
The team told the media, “As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time,” even as the NFL is reviewing the matter.
But TMZ, of course, finally received footage of York’s arrest. As the clip went viral online, NFL reporters were left understandably stunned.
Chase Senior summarized the clip, stating, “The Jed York bodycam footage is out, and it’s a tough, sad watch. Billionaire in a rental car, Ohio trailer park community, sweaty old grey Yankees shirt and grey gym shorts. Police officer had no idea who he was, but knew he was some rich guy.”

Sports Illustrated’s Grant Cohn noticed how the sting operation for the prostitution charges coincidentally led to York. “The officer had no idea who Jed York was. Thought he was in real estate.”
Kansas City Chiefs page “Arrowhead Live” was perplexed at the way York was looking in the clip. From his outfit to his choice of commute, it looked like he didn’t want to draw attention to himself.

“Is he trying to cosplay as a ‘regular dude’ or what? What is a billionaire doing in that fit, driving a VW Atlas? Genuinely confused.”
However, most people couldn’t get over the shock of seeing the bodycam footage of such a prominent member of the NFL owners being arrested. “Just an insane visual to see,” one fan exclaimed, their shock about the situation evident.
Analyst Warren Sharp focused on a different part of the clip. He put the spotlight on the reaction from the officer once York was arrested.
“This cop is all of us after Jed York was busted in a trailer park: ‘He’s got more cash in his wallet, a [expletive] of cash. It’s crazy the people that do this. They could do whatever they want. It’s wild,'” Sharp wrote, quoting the officer in charge.
Veteran Dallas Cowboys reporter, Clarence Hill Jr., was also stunned by how York was trying to play off the situation, calling attention to his look. “In a minivan. And a Yankees shirt.”
It remains to be seen how things proceed for York. He was sentenced to a day in jail on each charge, served concurrently, with credit for time already served. But beyond that, the NFL will conduct its own investigation to ascertain if he violated its conduct policy, which could land him in additional trouble.
