For the last game of preseason Week 2, the Tennessee Titans are facing off against the defending Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks. This is a pretty important preseason game for the Titans because they are playing their starters.
Most importantly, QB Cam Ward must look like a good starter. He is the franchise QB and is no doubt the starter for 2026, but he still needs to play well in the preseason. Well, that has not been the case today.
Cam Ward’s Struggles in Preseason Game 2
So far against the Seahawks, which at the time of writing is early in the second quarter, Ward is 8/12 for 69 yards. Not a bad stat line, but the young QB has had some really bad misses in this game that are worrying.
Last season, Ward finished with a league-worst impact score of 61.6 on PFN’s QB Impact Metric. Clearly, there is an issue, and the Titans quarterback will need to be more consistent in his second year, but these misses are not a good sign.

Football podcaster Dylan Mehl pointed out that the Titans are playing starters while the Seahawks are not, and that Ward is still struggling. He wrote, “I know the Seahawks are the defending Super Bowl champions, but the Titans are playing starters vs backups and getting outplayed at every level. Some young player mistakes and Cam Ward not looking like a guy who is going to take a year 2 leap at all.”

Football account Lucky Football posted a funny video of Michael Vick missing targets and comparing it to Ward’s performance:

Fantasy content creator Kev Mahserejian added that the Titans defense is also struggling to the point it could get the Titans a top pick again: “Cam Ward may not be it but the good news is this Titans defense (getting crushed by Seattle’s backups) might be so bad they end up with 1.01 again.”

They then posted a clip of Ward underthrowing Elic Ayomanor, which is definitely the QB’s fault on this one: “Cam Ward underthrows Elic Ayomanor.”

NFL analyst Raheem Palmer believes Cam Ward’s struggles may show he’s not ready to be the guy in Tennessee. He said, “Cam Ward might not be that guy. I know it’s just preseason, but he hasn’t looked good in any of these games. I was expecting improvement.”
Obviously, since it’s preseason, many takes can be overreactions, but this may not be one of them. Ward should be taking a second-year leap and fixing some of the issues he dealt with last season, but missing throws against backups is a worrying sight.
The season has not even started, so once again, things can change.
