The second week of preseason action saw the Dallas Cowboys give burn to a lot of their rookies. With the focus on defense this summer, most of their draft picks went towards improving specific areas on that side of the football.
Among those picks, one of the most anticipated selections was Shavon Revel Jr. in the third round. Fans finally got a taste of what he looks like against the Arizona Cardinals.
The focus, though, quickly became an error from the announcers about him that angered the fan base.
Fans Call Out ESPN Announcer for Shavon Revel Jr. Mistake
The Cowboys had a single-minded agenda this offseason. After a disastrous season defensively that landed them outside the playoff picture, the team wanted to make some major improvements on that side of the ball.
As a result, a ton of their resources went towards that objective, particularly with the 2026 NFL Draft. Revel, taken with the 76th overall pick, was a key addition to that agenda, with the hopes of improving a defense that ranked dead last in PFN’s Defense Impact Metrics.
So far, albeit in preseason, the defense has been shining for the Cowboys. Last week, they gave up just seven points to the Seattle Seahawks. This time around, they’ll be hoping for an equally stringent performance.

Through the first half, that goal was coming to fruition, with Revel playing a key role. Logging an interception on the first drive of the game for the Cardinals, he set the tone early for the Cowboys.
But the announcers made a critical error, claiming he was from Eastern Kentucky instead of East Carolina, where he spent his final three collegiate seasons. Then, making a mistake on his injury history as well, Sam Acho triggered what seemed like the entire Cowboys fan base.
One fan fact-checked the ESPN announcers, stating, “Shavon Revel went to East Carolina University, not Eastern Kentucky, and dealt with an ACL injury in 2024. Announcers just get on air and say anything.”

Others followed suit, directly addressing the ESPN analyst about his mistake. “@TheSamAcho Revel went to East Carolina, not Eastern Kentucky.” Some, though, went a step further to directly call the NFL Network out for some obvious mistakes from the announcing crew.
As one fan wrote, “Shavon Revel of Eastern Kentucky??? C’mon man!! East Carolina University.” Another fan went the sarcastic route in detailing the errors in Acho’s attempt at revealing the rookie corner’s history.
“Great work by Sam Acho to point out how Shavon Revel went to Eastern Kentucky (no) and battled injuries coming out of high school before joining the Cowboys (no).” However, it didn’t take long for curses to start flying about what was a hard-to-justify mistake from the announcer.

“[Expletive] announcer said Shavon Revel with the interception out of Eastern Kentucky,” one fan exclaimed as the mistake by the announcer took away from the action and what must have been a special moment in Revel’s young career.
