Angel Reese is a polarizing player in the polarizing league that is the WNBA.
The transgender athlete debate has entered its ranks and drawn in commentators from not just the sports world, but the political realm as well. Everyone is sticking around, commenting on every potential WNBA angle for attention. Count Jason Whitlock in that camp.
Whitlock, a notably outspoken individual when it comes to the WNBA, recently had a guest on his show who floated a wild theory about Reese in the aftermath of the Dream’s close loss to the Indiana Fever.
WNBA Commentator Shares Theory on Angel Reese’s Missed Bucket
A recent clip from Whitlock’s show Fearless featured outspoken commentator Ak Nation sharing an out-there theory about Reese.
“I think when you want to be a supermodel, having huge shoulders doesn’t jive with that career path,” Ak Nation said, a comment in reference to Reese’s lack of upper-body strength and all her missed shots near the basket. “I feel like Angel doesn’t want to develop that part of her body because she wants to look good.”
Whitlock’s show is known for featuring rather infamous guests, so this is nothing new, though this is not a conversation that would be platformed on most shows covering the WNBA.
“I think that her side career as a model is making her hesitant to build her upper body,” Ak Nation continued.
Again, this is a very bold take and one that appears to lack a nuanced discussion on the WNBA.
The conversation around Reese’s strength arose after she missed a potential game-winning shot on Sunday against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. The lasting image from the game was Clark smiling at Reese in the background after the ugly miss.
The Fever would go on to win in overtime.
Reese has since gone on record to state how devastated she was that she couldn’t bag the game-winner for the Dream in that matchup, saying that she had a hard time getting any sleep in the aftermath of that loss.
Reese and Clark entered the WNBA together in 2024 and have helped bring the league to new heights. They are always at the center of any WNBA discussion, and the fact that they can combine for thrilling games at the WNBA level is a testament to their respective star power.
Being a WNBA star also opens up opportunities such as modeling. Reese is seizing such opportunities, but it seems like a stretch to say she isn’t building her strength because of her side gig.
