What Happened to Olivia Miles? WNBA World Concerned as Lynx Sensation’s Injury Leads to Abrupt Exit in Win Over Valkyries

WNBA fans express concern as Lynx rookie Olivia Miles leaves Minnesota's win over the Valkyries with an ankle injury.

Minnesota Lynx star rookie Olivia Miles sent shockwaves through the WNBA after limping off the court during her team’s 77-66 victory over the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday.

She delivered a stellar performance before her fourth-quarter exit, leaving fans and analysts deeply concerned about her sudden ankle injury.

Olivia Miles’ Ankle Injury Sparks Concern As Lynx Star Exits Game Against Valkyries Early

Miles has been on an absolute tear all year. After starring at Notre Dame and TCU, she was selected No. 2 by the Minnesota Lynx in the 2026 WNBA Draft.

The 23-year-old stepped into the league seamlessly, dropping historic rookie numbers and making an instant All-Star appearance while leading Minnesota to the top of the standings.

Her stellar debut campaign, however, hit a roadblock on Wednesday night during Minnesota’s road win over the Valkyries.

Miles was putting on a masterclass at Chase Center, with 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists on an incredibly efficient 8-for-10 shooting.

However, the mood shifted dramatically in the fourth quarter when she accidentally stepped on teammate Napheesa Collier’s foot, rolling her left ankle. She limped off the court and went straight to the locker room.

While she managed to return to the bench shortly after, her abrupt exit left fans concerned.

One fan argued that Minnesota was well aware of Miles’ injury history dating back to the draft.

“She’s injury prone – you knew that going into the draft … Olivia Miles was the clear #1,” they wrote on X.

One fan prayed for it to not be a significant foot fracture.

“Please don’t let it be a Jones fracture🫣😞” they wrote on X.

Another fan called out the coaching staff for keeping key starters on the floor late in the game, writing:

“Sometimes I don’t get the coaches, you are already qualified for the [playoffs and] still you are using your key players like you are in the last position. What would have happened if she only played 20 mins? Protect your players, coaches.”

“She needs to stay healthy! I don’t want any excuses 😭” another fan on X added.

One user reminded everyone that the upcoming FIBA international break gives Miles plenty of time to rest and recover.

“It’ll be alright. Got a long break coming up for FIBA,” they wrote.

The Lynx sit atop the league leaderboard with a 30-7 record, having already punched their playoff ticket. Fortunately, the upcoming 17-day FIBA World Cup break (August 31 to September 16) gives Miles nearly three full weeks to rest.

Since she walked to the bench on her own, the injury looks like a minor ankle sprain rather than anything season-ending, but no official diagnosis was available to confirm the severity.
