Jalen Hurts’ speed has been turning heads at the Philadelphia Eagles’ training camp, with defensive teammates taking notice of their quarterback’s athleticism.
However, it was a clip of one underwhelming play shared by the Eagles’ social media team that drew huge attention, prompting former Denver Broncos Super Bowl champion T.J. Ward to weigh in.

Hurts found himself at the center of a viral training camp moment for all the wrong reasons. One player’s highlight often comes at another’s expense during camp, and that was the case when the Eagles’ social media team shared cornerback Quinyon Mitchell’s interception of Hurts on Wednesday.
Mitchell, who finished last season with an 87.4 PFN Impact grade, was the intended focus of the clip.
The video quickly spread online because Hurts threw the interception, which also led to criticism from fans who questioned why the Eagles would post content that cast their franchise quarterback in a negative light. While some also believed the clip was uploaded by mistake, Ward argued it was a calculated move.
“This is a perfect example of clickbait,” Ward said on the “Speakeasy” podcast on Wednesday. “This (is) clickbait. They want the clicks. I kind of like it, though. It’s a realistic view of football and how camp goes.
“You got all these teams out here just showing the positives of their quarterback…. This is a realistic play that happens in camp for one of the best corners in the league. Our defense got to make plays too, and let’s put a light on our defense.

“We’re gonna go back to being one of the top defenses in the league, starting with Quinyon Mitchell. That’s what that looks like to me now. Was it a mistake? I don’t think so. Obviously, people are gonna like to hate, love to hate. 13 million views looks like a win for the Eagles when they know on Sunday, regardless, they’re gonna be a top team in the NFC, and they’re gonna be playoff contenders.”

Hurts is looking to rebound after a lackluster 2025 season that prompted the Eagles to revamp their offense during the offseason. However, there seems to be little concern inside the franchise about their quarterback, and new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion has incorporated plenty of designed quarterback runs during camp.
Defensive tackle Jalen Carter said on Tuesday’s conference that Hurts has been difficult to track down despite arriving at training camp roughly 10 pounds lighter.
Even defensive coordinator Vic Fangio admitted that Hurts has enjoyed “a good camp” and “looks faster.” Fangio added that because quarterbacks cannot be hit during practice, defenders often believe they have a sack when Hurts likely would have escaped.
Meanwhile, Hurts has also embraced the mindset needed for the new season, remaining focused on the team’s ultimate objective.
“I’ve got a job to do, and I take pride in that,” Hurts said.
The Eagles will get their first opportunity to show their progress when they open the 2026 season against the Washington Commanders on Sept. 13.
