The New York Giants turned more than a few heads when they hosted former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold for an official workout and facility visit.
Arnold, 23, was waived by Detroit in late June 2026 after facing serious off-field felony charges in Florida. While Arnold has denied any wrongdoing and his legal team maintains his innocence, the decision by head coach John Harbaugh and the Giants’ front office to explore a move has sparked intense debate among Big Blue supporters.
John Harbaugh Explains Giants’ Approach With Terrion Arnold
Harbaugh didn’t shy away from questions about Arnold following Wednesday’s practice.
Instead, he explained why the organization was willing to do its homework and consider every potential way to improve the roster.
“We want to be aggressive in every way, whatever we can do, find anything out we can about any situation or player that can help us be better,” Harbaugh said. “The margins are tight in the National Football League. We’re looking for players that can help us all the time. He’s a player that can help us.”
Harbaugh also stressed that the Giants weren’t simply relying on what has been reported publicly about Arnold. “The organization has looked at it in depth,” he said. “It’s more than just what you read in the newspapers, though. You’ve gotta find out exactly where everything stands.”

That explanation hasn’t stopped the debate among Giants fans.
The reaction to Harbaugh’s comments was all over the place. Angelo Feliberty, an associate beat writer for Clemson on SI, backed the coach, posting: “THAT’S MY COACH.”
MadMarx took the opposite view, criticizing both Harbaugh and the organization: “Zero morals with this coach or franchise. Shameful.”
One fan pointed to the Giants’ history of taking chances on defensive backs, saying: “This seems crazy until you realize how the Giants drafted Eli Apple, DeAndre Baker and Deonte Banks all in the first round and oh look, it’s not so crazy now.”
The host of The Tailgate Cam podcast also questioned whether Arnold’s character concerns would deter Harbaugh, writing, “Harbaugh is MAGA, surely a character concern won’t scare him off.”
Meanwhile, the host of Kickin’ It w/Zain focused on Harbaugh’s influence within the organization, saying, “This should tell you everything you need to know about how much power Harbaugh has because John Mara would never allow this for another coach.”
Alex Wilson looked at the situation from the Giants’ roster perspective, writing, “If the Giants aren’t worried about the legal stuff with Terrion Arnold, holy [expletive] do we need him REAL bad.”
Before the legal controversy, Arnold was viewed as a promising young cornerback.
Detroit selected him with a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after his standout career at Alabama. He entered the league with a reputation as a physical boundary corner who could become a significant defensive contributor.
The Lions eventually moved on after his arrest in June, and Arnold cleared waivers, making him an unrestricted free agent.
There is also an obvious football reason for New York’s interest.
The Giants have young talent in their secondary, including Deonte Banks, Paulson Adebo, and Greg Newsome, but adding another high-upside corner could give the defense more depth and competition.
For now, though, a workout doesn’t guarantee a contract. Harbaugh’s comments make one thing clear: the Giants are willing to investigate difficult situations if they believe a player can improve the roster.
