The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback competition took a strange turn, thanks to someone who never played for the team.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko dropped a cryptic bomb on X this weekend, and the internet is still trying to figure out what to make of it.
Browns QB Rumor Sparks Speculation, Backlash Amid Shedeur Sanders-Deshaun Watson Battle
Fehoko wrote on X, “Don’t shoot the messenger. Word in the Cleveland Browns locker room is the best quarterback isn’t Deshaun or Shedeur right now…”
Naturally, Browns fans and NFL commentators didn’t waste any time trying to fill in the blank. If it’s not Deshaun Watson and it’s not Shedeur Sanders, that leaves the backups, Dillon Gabriel and Taylen Green, as the only other options on the roster.
Physical therapist and injury analyst Jeff Mueller was rooting for one outcome specifically. He said, “Please let this mean Taylen Green and not Dillon Gabriel.”

Draft analyst Bill Sparks just wrote, “Taylen Green 👀” in hope that the quarterback Fehoko refered was the rookie instead of Gabriel.

Fantasy football personality DA Dynasty landed on the same guess, though he wasn’t exactly handing out credibility points to Fehoko in the process.
“Idk if this guy knows anyone or anything…” he wrote, before adding, “But we will see Taylen Green in 2026.”
NFL Draft Files also reacted and said, “The highs and lows of Taylen Green for 17 games would be a glorious way to earn the #1 overall pick.”

The backlash got a lot sharper from there. User Ben Havin went after Fehoko directly, pushing back on any notion that Gabriel deserved to be in this conversation at all.
“Bro stop making this (expletive) up don’t say Dillion he has 3 picks,” he wrote. “Let’s not forget he had over 50+ attempts and only like 12 completions in a single game! Get off (expletive) n stop making (expletive) up.”
Another user, going by Mac Roberts, questioned why Fehoko would even put the rumor out there in the first place. “That’s how YOU lose all credibility,” the post read. “Shouldn’t even tweet no (expletive) like that!”
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Gerald McCoy also reacted to the rumor and wrote, “Take this with a grain of salt. So many variables that play into this statement. 1. Who said it? 2. Who is said QB going against and situations. 3. Pads just got on. 4. Do it in a game. Practice is one thing, game completely different. It’s a lot of practice All-Pro’s. What separate them ones is they translate it to the game. You played the game so you know. But I peep what you’re doing…”

Fehoko replied to McCoy by saying, “I’m just the middle man Og. ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜‚😂😂 I mean no harm bro.”

Fans responded with everything from genuine curiosity to sharp criticism. Fehoko hasn’t been on an NFL roster in years and has no apparent ties to Cleveland, but that didn’t stop his cryptic post from generating plenty of buzz.
For what it’s worth, the actual power brokers in Cleveland aren’t tipping their hand either. Owner Jimmy Haslam wouldn’t rule out any scenario when asked if Watson could stick around beyond this season.
“I think there are all kinds of possibilities out there, so yes,” he said, before noting that head coach Todd Monken will ultimately make the call once camp and preseason games play out.
General manager Andrew Berry echoed that same wait-and-see approach. “I wouldn’t rule anything out in terms of the whole quarterback of the future discussion,” Berry said. “We’re going to play the player who’s the most productive on the field.”
Watson is working his way back from multiple Achilles surgeries, while Sanders, who, according to PFN’s QB Impact Metric, posted an impact score of 63.0 last season, took over as the starter late last season and has been building on that momentum.
Throw in Gabriel and Green, and Monken has got himself a legitimately open competition, whether or not a random tweet from a former Steelers lineman has anything to do with it.
Until Fehoko decides to name names and provides some strong evidence, this one’s staying firmly in rumor territory. Take it for what it’s worth.
