One of the more interesting questions about the NFL offseason is going to be the quarterback position for the Cleveland Browns. While Shedeur Sanders closed out last season as the starter for the final seven games, they also have Deshaun Watson on the roster.
However, Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot believed the clear-cut answer had to be Watson. Unfortunately, her comments led to a rather ugly comment from Sanders’ brother, Shilo Sanders. Now, he’s on the receiving end of a ton of flak from veteran analysts and sports media members.

So far, neither choice seems like an ideal answer for the Browns. Sanders finished as the fourth-worst quarterback on PFSN’s QB Impact Metric last season, while Watson ranked at number 39 in 2024.
However, between the two, Cabot is leaning heavily towards the veteran. Claiming that Watson had an “inside track” to become the QB1 over Sanders, she didn’t think the rest of the offseason was going to be enough for the second-generation star to bridge the gap.
The boisterous Sanders fan base did not take too kindly to her comments. But the worst instance came from Shilo, who wrote, “Go make a sandwich, Mary,” in the Instagram comments. Understandably, it was seen as a very demeaning comment.
And Cabot found an unlikely savior in Skip Bayless. A Sanders fan from the start, the veteran analyst, during a segment on “The Arena” Gridiron,” called out the behavior of the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back without mincing words.
“I love the Sanders family. I know Deion well,” Bayless clarified. “I believe in that family, and Deion has preached to his Colorado squad, ‘Respect for women.'” That’s why he found the comments from the Shilo all the more shocking.

“To take a chauvinistic shot at Mary Kay Cabot is just wrong to me. And I don’t think father [Deion] will like that his son did that. It only makes it a little harder for brother [Shedeur] in Cleveland because it’s so negative. It’s like, you’re dismissing her, classically, killing the messenger.”

It remains to be seen if the comments from Shilo affect the second-year quarterback in any way. But it has put an uncomfortable spotlight on the situation, with involvement from their Hall of Fame father seeming imminent, as Bayless puts it.
