The Sanders family once again made it onto the front page, with Shilo Sanders and Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders taking center stage. The biggest storyline of the Browns’ offseason has been the decision regarding who’ll start under center in 2026 — Sanders or Deshaun Watson. Shilo, however, came across as aggressive when he recently defended his brother.
Shilo Sanders Gets Slammed for Comment About Browns’ Reporter Mary Kay Cabot
Amid discussions about who should start for Todd Monken’s Browns in 2026, team insider Mary Kay Cabot strongly advocated for Watson to be named the starter. As the more experienced signal-caller, with what many deem a stronger skill set, Watson is the favorite in many people’s eyes.
“I think they should declare [Watson] QB1 ASAP and let the first-team offense start to cook,” Cabot said. “There’s no time to waste.”
Shilo, a free agent, was quick to jump to his brother’s defense.
“Go make a sandwich Mary,” he commented.
Dov Kleiman reported on the matter, posting:
“Holy Sh*t: Former Bucs star safety Shilo Sanders ROASTS Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot after she said Deshaun Watson should be the QB1 over his brother Shedeur.”

The NFL world reacted in abundance to the controversial comments.
“One of these folks is already honored in the Pro Football Hall of Fame,” NFL beat writer Rick Stroud wrote. “The other is Shilo Sanders.”
Cabot has been covering the Browns for nearly four decades and was honored by the Pro Football Hall of Fame for her contributions to coverage of the game in 2025.

“Cabot, the 57th Nunn Award honoree, is the second journalist who primarily worked at the Cleveland Plain Dealer to win the award, joining Chuck Heaton (1980),” the Hall of Fame wrote. “Cabot was a four-time finalist for the Nunn Award (2022-25) and becomes the second woman to be a Nunn honoree. (Charean Williams, 2018).”
She frequently appears on “The Ken Carman Show With Anthony Lima,” among others, where she provides updates from inside the Browns franchise. With a long resume dating back to the 20th century, Cabot is receiving plenty of support from the NFL community following Shilo’s comment.
“The great Mary Kay Cabot taking the high road when asked about Shilo Sanders’ misogynist comments aimed at her following the Browns’ QB depth chart report,” wrote Lima on X after Cabot was asked about Shilo’s comments.
“I know so many women who have joined the football world especially because of some of the things I’ve been able to do over the years, I’m happy about that.”

“TRENDING: Former NFL safety Shilo Sanders is under criticism for a “SEXIST” comment about Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot after she said Deshaun Watson should be the starting quarterback over his brother Shedeur,” MLFootball posted.
Whether Shilo finds another team to play for is uncertain. After going undrafted in 2025, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers picked him up for their practice squad, but Deion Sanders’s son never made it into a regular-season game.
As for Shedeur, fans will be closely watching where he starts the 2026 campaign — under center or on the bench.
