We are less than a month away from the 2026 NFL Draft, with the festivities set to kick off on Thursday, April 23. This is one of the most exciting days of the year for fanbases and franchises alike, as making a correct pick could alter the history of the franchise forever.
While quarterback Fernando Mendoza is viewed as the top prospect at the position, another prospect has tossed his hat into the ring to be one of the highest-drafted QBs this year; enter Garrett Nussmeier.
Garrett Nussmeier’s Draft Stock Rises After Strong Pro Day
When it comes to the NFL Draft, landing a prized quarterback can change the future of a team. While the aforementioned Mendoza and Ty Simpson have widely been regarded as the top two quarterbacks of the draft class, LSU star Garrett Nussmeier has continued to see his stock rise.
Even though Nussmeier is coming off a disappointing season, NFL insider Field Yates noted that his excellent performance during his pro day might have vaulted him into the top three at the position.
“Nussmeier threw the football with the accuracy you would expect — the hallmark of his great 2024 season was excellent anticipation and accuracy — and observers noted how he looked healthy,” Yates said.
An abdominal injury affected Nussmeier for most of the 2025 season, hurting his overall numbers in the process. This past year, the LSU starter threw for 1,927 yards with 12 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.
While these numbers don’t jump off the page, he was electric during the 2024 season, which saw him throw for a whopping 4,052 yards with 29 touchdowns.
This is why his seemingly clean bill of health has some scouts excited about his dynamic performance during his pro day, which is something Yates believes could help him climb up draft boards.
“Health was an issue for him this past season, but seeing him look like this helped strengthen his case to be taken as QB3 in the upcoming draft,” Yates added.

Several NFL teams have already reportedly expressed interest in Nussmeier, as the quarterback himself has said that he is set to meet with the New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts, and Los Angeles Rams. Depending on which team ultimately drafts Nussmeier, his role for the upcoming NFL season could be determined by his new club’s league.
The LSU star currently sits as the No. 3 quarterback in the PFSN Analyst Rankings and the No. 163 overall prospect heading into the 2026 NFL Draft. If he can remain healthy, Garrett Nussmeier could find himself with an opportunity in the NFL soon enough.
