Brad Gilbert Reacts to Iga Świątek’s Split with Wim Fissette

The Polish star was going through a challenging period in her career, suffering early exits at multiple tournaments. Amid this stretch of disappointing results, Świątek made a major announcement: her split with Belgian coach Wim Fissette.

She shared an image of herself with the coach, writing an emotional message talking about her recent struggles. Świątek mentioned that the 2026 Miami Open was challenging for her and that she feels “disappointment, bitterness, and responsibility for my performance.”

“That being said, after many months of working together with my coach @fissettewim, I’ve decided to take a different path. I’m grateful for his support, experience, and everything we achieved together – including one of my biggest dreams in sport,” Świątek wrote.

She thanked her coach for his time and the lessons he taught her, wishing him the best in his personal and professional life. She also announced her break from the WTA Tour, “taking a moment to take care of myself, process this experience, and prepare for a new chapter.”

Now that one of the biggest stars on the women’s side is sitting without a coach, Gauff’s former coach Gilbert was curious to know who the Polish star will pick as her next coach. The American wrote, “Will be interesting 🤨 to see her next move for Iga Pop on the coaching front,” showing his intrigue on X.

When a fan asked the same question, suggesting Gilbert and Dominic Thiem’s names, the American replied, writing, “Home 🏡 Thiem interesting 🤨 call 📞 and he said has some news 📰 coming.”

When rumors of Świątek’s firing of Fissette surfaced, fans started associating Piotr Wozniacki, the father of former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki, with the world No. 3. However, the former football player cleared the air around this topic, stating clearly, “No, no – I definitely won’t be Iga Świątek’s new coach.”

During his interview with Sport.pl, he also mentioned that he “would only return as my daughter’s coach. I am committed to Karolina and our family in general.” With Wozniacki now out of the picture, fans are associating Świątek’s name with the 2020 US Open champion, Dominic Thiem.

Just a few days ago, the Austrian former pro announced that he had “some news to share,” continuing his journey “in a new and exciting way” after 14 incredible years on the ATP Tour. He also mentioned that he is “looking forward to passing on my knowledge and experiences in the sport I love the most.”

This points toward the possibility of him becoming a coach or mentor, helping rising stars establish themselves on the tour, or to a potential partnership with the Pole. He announced Monday, March 23, as the date for his big reveal, which perfectly aligns with Świątek’s split.

It would be interesting to see who will be the next coach of the Polish champion and how she returns to her championship form, with just two months remaining before Roland Garros, where she has won the title four times in seven appearances.
