Wim Fissette Cherished His Time As Iga Świątek’s Coach

Fissette joined Świątek’s team at the tail end of 2024, when the Pole announced her abrupt split from her longtime coach Tomasz Wiktorowski. At the time, the player was serving a brief suspension as a result of a doping contamination.

Fissette, who took on the duties during a challenging time in Świątek’s career, guided her to three of her 25 career titles in 2025, at the Wimbledon Championships, the Cincinnati Open, and the Korea Open. In his Instagram post, the Belgian coach recalled his first meeting with the Pole.

“You never know where life will take you and the ones you meet along the way. In 2018, I met Iga at the Wimbledon Champions Dinner after she won juniors. Seven years later, we won it together. A nice story,” he wrote.

“We both wanted and worked for more but shared important moments and lessons. Iga, I now wish you good luck and success in what’s next. I’m sure you will have it,” Fissette added.

The coach also thanked Świątek’s fans for their continued backing and appreciated his family’s support. Fissette boasts a rich resume, having coached the likes of Naomi Osaka, Kim Clijsters, Simona Halep, Victoria Azarenka, and Angelique Kerber, among others.

Iga Świątek Heartbroken Over Her ‘Bitter’ Miami Open 2026 Run

Świątek and Fisette’s separation comes just days after the player’s early exit at the Miami Open. The Pole, who has struggled with her form in recent times, crashed out in her first match as compatriot Magda Linette produced a comeback win for the ages. The defeat ended Świątek’s streak of 73 consecutive opening matches won.

“Sometimes life and sport bring moments like this… Miami was challenging for me. I feel disappointment, bitterness and responsibility for my performance on the court of course. I’ve also learned a lot of important lessons and I think that’s very human,” she wrote on Instagram.

She also addressed her decision to part ways with her coach: “After many months of working together with my coach @fissettewim I’ve decided to take a different path. It was an intense time full of challenges and many important experiences. I’m grateful for his support, experience, and everything we achieved together – including one of my biggest dreams in sport.”

“Wim, thank you for this time and for the lessons I’ve learned thanks to you. I wish you all the best – both professionally and personally,” she added. “The rest of my team remains unchanged. I know there are many questions, but I’ll let you know what’s next at the right time.”
