Aqib Talib Declares ‘Perfect’ Jaylen Waddle the ‘Missing Piece’ for Broncos

Aqib Talib praised the Denver Broncos' trade for Jaylen Waddle, calling the wide receiver the "missing piece" the offense needed.

The Denver Broncos were very quiet during the first part of free agency. However, the team recently pulled off a big move via trade, acquiring wide receiver Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins.

The Broncos gave up multiple draft picks, including a 2026 first-rounder, for Waddle, so the expectation is he’ll be the team’s top option. One former Denver Bronco praised the move, calling Waddle a “perfect” addition.

Why Aqib Talib Believes Jaylen Waddle Is a Perfect Fit for the Broncos’ Offense

Waddle spent the first five years of his career with the Dolphins after being drafted in the first round in 2021. The receiver has eclipsed 1,000 yards three times and is one of the best deep threats in the league.

Aqib Talib, who played for the Broncos from 2014 to 2017, recently explained why he thinks Waddle will be a great fit in Denver.

“I think that’s the missing piece we needed on offense,” said Talib of Waddle. “He is the perfect guy to put in that receiver room because you don’t hear about Jaylen Waddle throwing tantrums or getting in trouble off the field. His personality is perfect for that receiver room.”

In 2025, Waddle played in 16 games for the Dolphins and caught 64 passes for 910 yards and 6 touchdowns. Those numbers are even more impressive when you realize Waddle dealt with subpar quarterback play.

The PFSN NFL WR Impact ranking gave Waddle an 80.9 grade for his 2025 performance.

In Denver, Waddle will join Courtland Sutton and Troy Franklin at the top of the receiver depth chart. Sutton was a 1,000-yard receiver last year, and with the addition of Waddle, the Broncos may have one of the best receiver trios in the league.

Can Waddle Help the Denver Broncos Take a Step Forward in 2026?

The Broncos have now made the playoffs in two consecutive seasons despite playing in one of the league’s toughest conferences. Last season, the team went 14-3 and made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game, where they fell to the New England Patriots.

Now, the hope is that a high-powered offense with Waddle, paired with one of the game’s best defenses, will be enough to get the team even further. In 2025, the PFSN NFL Defense Impact metrics gave the team a 90.1 grade, while the PFSN NFL Offense Impact metrics gave the team a 75.9 grade.

The Broncos have been quiet on the free agency front, but they already boast one of the best rosters in the league. It will be interesting to see if Waddle significantly raises the team’s ceiling.
