Coco Gauff has received a heartfelt response from icon Eileen Gu after the former shared her reaction to Gu winning the gold medal in the women’s halfpipe competition, following silver medals in big air and slopestyle at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games. The World No. 4 last competed at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, where she lost the semifinal round to Elina Svitolina.
Coco Gauff Receives an Admirable Reply From Eileen Gu As She Adds a Gold Medal to Her Tally
Gauff has concluded her Middle East Swing by facing a round of 32, including a defeat at the Qatar Open to Italian talent Elisabetta Cocciaretto. In the Dubai Tennis Championship, she defeated Anna Kalinskaya, Elise Mertens, and Filipino talent Alexandra Eala in the quarterfinals. She ended the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai with a semifinal loss to Elina Svitolina, wrapping up her journey without a title.
Gauff recently shared her heartwarming reaction as Gu won the gold medal in halfpipe, shining brightly at the 2026 Olympic Games. The multi-sport event is being held from February 6 to 22, across Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. With the win, Gu becomes the most decorated freestyle skier in the history of the Olympic Games, with a total of six Olympic medals.
She successfully defended her gold medal in the halfpipe event, last winning it in the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games, along with a silver medal in slopestyle and a gold medal in the big air event. Through her Instagram post, Gu shared her glimpse with her gold medal, adding in the caption, “Gold.”

To which Gauff, heartwarmingly shared, “congratulations 😍😍,” to which Gu replied with letter heart emoticons, “@cocogauff 💌💌💌.”
However, after her historic win, Gu came across a solemn message informing her that her grandmother, Guozhen Feng, had passed away. With a heavy heart, the 22-year-old expressed the significance of her grandmother’s role in her life, mentioning, “She was a steamship. This woman commanded life, and she grabbed it by the reins, and she made it into what she wanted it to be.”

She continued, “She inspired me so much. The last time I saw her before I came to the Olympics, she was very sick, so I knew that this was a possibility. I didn’t probably say that I was going to win, but I did promise her that I was going to be brave. She’s been brave.”
Gu has been an inspiration for the sport, taking it to greater heights, and apart from her Olympic medals, she has two gold medals and one bronze from the World Championships, as well as from the Winter X Games and the Winter Youth Olympics.
