While Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson might not have wanted her relationship with Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo to become public, it happened, and it was all due to the mayor of Miami, Fla., letting the cat out of the bag, so to speak.
Wilson recalled the moment while answering some trivia questions about Adebayo. And, it had to do with Adebayo receiving a key to the city after his gold-medal achievements in men’s basketball with Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
How A’ja Wilson’s Relationship With Bam Adebayo Became Public
On Friday, Maddy, who calls herself a hoops enjoyer and the WAGTalk girl, spent some time with Wilson. During the trivia question session, where Wilson was asked about Adebayo’s basketball career, one question focused on the mayor of Miami, Eileen Higgins.
“What did the mayor of Miami-Dade County give to him…” Maddy asked. “Girl,” Wilson said. “After the Olympics?” Maddy continued. “Girl, the key. The key. She gave the key and our business. Gave those two things away. Yes, she did.” Then Maddy asked, “What is his actual full name?” Wilson replied, “Edrice Femi Adebayo.”
In a TikTok video, Higgins is shown at the August 10, 2024, ceremony, mispronouncing Wilson’s first name at first. “A’ja Wilson, and she won gold in women’s basketball,” Higgins said. The camera then pans to Wilson, who looks a little embarrassed.
“Uh, I guess it has something to do with Bam and the Heat, huh, being here today,” Higgins said when looking at Wilson. Wilson sort of shrugged and nodded her head while smiling.
“Well, we’re super proud,” Higgins said. “We’re going to present him with the key in a moment.” Adebayo also won a gold medal with Team USA in 2021, too.
Statistically speaking, Adebayo is averaging 18.1 points per game this season. He’s been doing his best to help the Heat stay in contention in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. How Adebayo can help Miami while playing at center is worth watching for the rest of this season.
On Friday night, Miami led the Boston Celtics by 22 points before Boston rallied for a 98-96 win.
As far as Wilson is concerned, she had a role in helping the Aces win the WNBA Championship in 2025. In the championship season, Wilson averaged 23.4 points. In addition to that WNBA title, Wilson is also a four-time WNBA MVP.
How long have Wilson and Adebayo been dating? Reports indicate that they have been a couple for more than three years. Wilson shows her support for Adebayo by coming to some Heat games when she has time.
