Colorado Buffaloes head coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders did not have a strong 2025 season with his college football team. The Buffaloes finished 3-9 overall and 1-8 in Big 12 Conference play.
It also marked Sanders’ first season without his son, Shedeur Sanders, on Colorado’s roster. Shedeur, once projected as an early-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, saw his stock fall to the fifth round. That is where the Cleveland Browns selected him, and Shedeur eventually saw action during the Browns’ 2025 NFL season as the team’s starting quarterback.
Colorado HC Deion Sanders Isn’t Going to the NFL
ESPN’s “First Take” host Shae Cornette asked Sanders on Friday morning whether there was anything that would entice him to jump to the NFL. Cornette prefaced the question by noting that Sanders had been mentioned as a potential candidate for the Dallas Cowboys’ head coaching job before owner Jerry Jones promoted Brian Schottenheimer to the role.
Schottenheimer had served as the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator for the previous two seasons under former head coach Mike McCarthy.
Sanders, however, made it clear he is not leaving Boulder, Colo., home of the Buffaloes, campus, anytime soon.

“Not whatsoever,” Sanders said. “After what transpired with my son last year? Ain’t no way in the world. No, I don’t have…thank you, Lord. When I stop like that…when I stop like that, that don’t mean I’m lost for words.”
Sanders joined the “First Take” crew, which included Stephen A. Smith and Cam Newton, in Santa Clara, Calif., where Super Bowl 60 between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks will be played.

The Buffaloes struggled on both sides of the ball last season. According to the PFSN’s CFB Impact Metrics, measured through the regular season, Colorado’s offense posted an impact score of 74.4 and received a C grade. Defensively, the Buffaloes recorded an impact score of 73.7, also graded as a C.
Sanders, however, is no stranger to the Super Bowl stage. He won two Super Bowl championships during his NFL career, one with the Cowboys and another with the San Francisco 49ers. For now, his focus remains on improving the Buffaloes ahead of the 2026 college football season and producing a better result on the field.
