Is Keenan Allen Hurt? A Look at Chargers WR’s Injury Status After Slow Start vs. Texans in Week 17

After returning to the Los Angeles Chargers this offseason, WR Keenan Allen has seen his production dipped as the 2025 season has progressed.

After spending the first eleven years of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers, wide receiver Keenan Allen departed in 2024, signing with the Chicago Bears. However, after a down season, he returned to the Chargers in 2025, picking back up with Los Angeles’ offense.

While he was a significant presence for quarterback Justin Herbert and the offense early on, his contributions have faded as the season progressed, with another slow start against the Houston Texans in Week 17.

What Happened to Los Angeles Chargers WR Keenan Allen?

No, Allen is not injured; in fact, he’s played in all 15 games for the Chargers this season. Through the first seven games of the season, Allen looked like he did before he left Los Angeles. However, he’s seen his production slow tremendously, averaging 36.1 yards per game over the last eight weeks.

That has continued in Week 17 against the Texans, dropping his only target from Herbert in the first half on a crucial third down late in the first quarter. So far this season, he has caught 73 of 106 targets for 724 yards and four touchdowns. However, he has not been in the end zone since Week 7.

The Chargers’ offense has had a tough season, especially after losing veteran Najee Harris for the season early on and then rookie running back Omarion Hampton for an extended period. They rank in the bottom half of the league according to PFSN’s Offense Impact metric with an impact score of 71.7.

While he hasn’t been as bad as his one-year stint in Chicago, Allen is having his second-worst season since 20219 according to PFSN’s WR Impact metric. His impact score of 75.3 represents an improvement over the 71.7 he achieved with the Bears in 2024; however, he remains the 46th-ranked WR in the league this season, a significant drop from his 86.5 rating in 2023.

Thankfully, the defense has been holding them down as Los Angeles’ unit ranks in the top ten of PFSN’s Defense Impact metric with a score of 81.8. While their playoff berth has been clinched, they can still jostle for seeding position and even have a shot at the AFC West title if they can take down the Denver Broncos in Week 18.

There’s even a chance to sneak into the #1 seed should the New England Patriots lose one of the final two games; however, with matchups against the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins, that doesn’t seem too likely.
