It starts with Bear Bachmeier. The freshman quarterback has to play the game of his life, including being more efficient as a passer. His offensive line needs to thwart the pass rush of Texas Tech’s elite defensive line to give him more time. More balance for the Cougars’ offense gives them a fighting chance.
The other component is the Cougars’ defense slowing down Behren Morton and the Texas Tech offense. They limited the Red Raiders to field goals at times in the previous matchup, and they’ll need to do it again this time, too. The question remains if that will be enough.
BYU needs this to be a low-scoring game. They have to dictate the pace and find ways to confuse the Red Raiders in order to have a chance at pulling off an upset. If not, we’ll see a similar result.
