The Sanders family has never been shy about mixing football with fun, and Thanksgiving dinner this year was no exception. As Shedeur Sanders prepares for his second NFL start with the Cleveland Browns, his brother Shilo Sanders couldn’t resist cracking a joke about his younger sibling’s upcoming performance against the San Francisco 49ers.
The Browns, who have leaned on Shedeur since injuries reshaped their quarterback room, face a daunting Week 13 matchup against one of the league’s most complete defenses. But inside the Sanders household, the conversation was less about blitz packages and coverages, and more about playful wagers and family pride.
Shilo Sanders Put a ‘Parlay’ on Shedeur Sanders
During the family’s Thanksgiving meal, Shilo teased the idea of placing a “parlay” on his brother’s stat line, specifically hoping for a monster passing performance.
The Sanders family at Thanksgiving before Shedeur’s second NFL start 😭
Shilo: “Please help him throw for 500 passing yards.”
Shedeur: “The win is most important.”
Mom: “Well, we want your passing yards… Run in some touchdowns.”
Shedeur: “The win.”

“Please help him throw for 500 passing yards,” Shilo said. “So he can win and get my parlays.. I’m just playing, I don’t bet on these.”
The exchange seemed lighthearted and full of family banter, and quickly made the rounds on social media. However, Shilo immediately walked back on his joke about his “parlay”, which could have to do with all of the scrutiny sports players are under currently with gambling investigations.
While the joke may have seemed risky, it seemed just like a brother rooting for his younger bro to succeed. Even as his brother and mother nudged him toward gaudy stats, Shedeur stayed locked in on the bigger picture: winning.
It’s a mindset that reflects the way he’s been coached his entire life. From his father, Deion Sanders, who preached accountability and team-first mentality at Colorado, to his transition into the NFL, Shedeur has consistently emphasized results over numbers.
That doesn’t mean he isn’t capable of putting up big stats; his arm talent and poise have already impressed scouts and analysts, but it does show where his priorities lie. In his first start last week, Sanders ranked 15th in PFSN’s proprietary Quarterback Impact metric. His QB Impact score of 72.8 were ahead of names like Josh Allen, Jared Goff, and Jacoby Brissett.
Sanders’ Challenge vs San Francisco
The Browns’ Week 13 opponent, the 49ers, presents an interesting opportunity for Sanders. Their defense currently ranks 27th on the season in PFSN’s Defense Impact metric. Their 67.1 season score puts them just ahead of teams like the Dolphins and Giants. This year, they have struggled in key metrics like sack percentage (last in the league) and third-down avoidance (29th).
For Shedeur, the test will be about composure. Can he stay patient under pressure? Can he protect the football while still pushing it downfield? Those questions will define not just his performance, but Cleveland’s future.
Shilo’s playful “parlay” joke may have been about numbers, but Shedeur knows the real measure of success will be whether the Browns can steal a win against one of the NFC’s elite teams.
As the Browns head into Week 13, Shedeur’s focus on “the win” may be exactly what they need. If Sanders does light up the 49ers for 500 yards, Shilo’s joke about having a parlay will be talked about all around the league.
