The Dallas Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones have made some significant moves this season, including trading superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons and acquiring star defensive lineman Quinnen Williams. Despite that, it’s easy to forget that Dallas also traded with the Pittsburgh Steelers to bring in star wide receiver George Pickens this offseason.
That deal might be the most impactful move Jones made. Pickens has been elite for the Cowboys this season. With his contract set to expire after the year, Jones recently made it clear how he feels about the wide receiver’s future in Dallas.
Jerry Jones Speaks on George Pickens’ Future in Dallas
Pickens has arguably been the best player on the Cowboys’ offense in 2025. Through 11 games, he has 67 catches for 1,054 yards and eight touchdowns, ranking third among all NFL wide receivers this season, according to PFSN’s WRi metric.
As impressive as Pickens has been, his future in Dallas remains uncertain. His rookie contract expires at the end of the 2025 season, and retaining the star wideout will likely require a significant amount of money.
While Jones has a history of being cautious when it comes to contract extensions, the Cowboys owner recently explained that keeping Pickens in Dallas is a priority for the organization.
According to The Athletic’s Jon Machota, Jones stated that the Cowboys are proud to have acquired Pickens from the Steelers and that he has been highly impactful this season. He added that he doesn’t want to play games with an extension and would love for Pickens to remain part of the team in the future.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on WR George Pickens: “We are proud we’ve got him and I don’t know of anyone that has helped his team any more to win this year.”
Does that mean Jones feels strongly that he wants Pickens on the Cowboys next season? “Of course, of course we are proud to…

“We are proud we’ve got him, and I don’t know of anyone who has helped his team any more to win this year,” Jones said. He continued, “Of course, of course we are proud to have him, and I don’t even want to play games with it, we’d love to have him on the team.
While Jones seems confident Dallas will extend Pickens, he appeared to skirt a question about speaking with the wide receiver’s agent. He did note, however, that Pickens’ performance this season has exceeded the Cowboys’ expectations.
“I don’t just try to spend my day messing with agents as you well know,” Jones said. “I’m proud he’s having the season he’s having. It exceeds anything we could have hoped for.”
According to Over the Cap, Dallas is expected to have $46.7 million in available cap space in 2026. While Pickens will likely command a contract north of $25 million per year, the Cowboys, in theory, have the money to retain him.
Pickens has been truly special for Dallas this season. While Jones has made moves as owner and general manager that haven’t always made sense to NFL fans, it appears he’s committed to keeping Pickens in a Cowboys uniform beyond 2025.
