Holger Rune’s mother and former coach Patrick Mouratoglou both spoke about the injury he suffered in Stockholm. The 22-year-old Dane hurt his leg during his semifinal against Ugo Humbert at the ATP 250 event and this eventually saw him retire from the match.
Holger Rune’s Mother and Former Coach React to His Injury
Rune entered the Stockholm Open as the top seed, and booked his place in the semifinals with wins over Márton Fucsovics and Tomás Martín Etcheverry. Here he locked horns with fourth seed Ugo Humbert. The Dane started the match well and took the lead by taking the opening set 6-4. However, during the fifth game of the second set, he injured his leg and retired from the match shortly after. Rune was visibly distraught.

Rune’s mother, Aneke, shared a few videos of the incident on her Instagram stories, and asked for fans to show her son love in light of his injury. Her caption in one of the stories read:
“Please do send Holger your love. This is really bad.”
In another story, the 22-year-old’s mother wrote:
“We cry with you Holger.”


The Dane’s mother, who said that he could be out for upto six months, was not the only to comment on his injury, as former coach Patrick Mouratoglou also expressed his sorrow on the situation, stating on his Instagram stories:
“Tough to watch.”

Rune and Mouratoglou worked together from Oct. 2022 to Apr. 2023, when they parted ways. The Frenchman returned to the Dane’s team and they worked till Aug. 2023, this time parting ways for good. Rune is currently coached by Kenneth Carlsen and Lars Christensen.
Ugo Humbert on Rune’s Injury
Humbert reached his second final of the 2025 season after Rune retiring from their match due to his injury. The Frenchman spoke about his sadness for the Dane’s situation and hoped a speedy recovery for him.
“I’m super disappointed for Holger, I hope he is going to be okay. I wish him a speedy recovery. It was a great match. He was playing a little bit better than me, but I’m really sorry for Holger,” Humbert said.
The Frenchman will next face second seed Casper Ruud in the final. The former World No. 2 booked his place in the title clash after defeating third seed Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 6-4. Whoever out of the two wins, will win their second title of the 2025 season.
