The Indianapolis Colts have had to make some tough calls as they head into Week 6. Already without QB Anthony Richardson, the Colts may struggle to win against the Arizona Cardinals.
Of course, the Colts have had a splendid start to the season. The team currently has a 4-1 win-loss record, with their only loss coming in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Rams.
Indianapolis Colts Announce Surprise Benching After WR’s Embarrassing Mistake
According to recent reports, Richardson isn’t the only player the Colts are playing without. As per NFL reporter Ari Meirov, the Colts have named wide receiver Adonai Mitchell a ‘healthy inactive’.

Mitchell, however, seems to be punished for his mistake during Week 5. The WR — who wasn’t on the injury report — fumbled and dropped the ball two weeks ago. He also played for less time in Week 5.
Richardson, though, is recovering from an eye injury he suffered during the warmups. This is the first time Mitchell has been listed as inactive during the 2025-26 season, which will most likely affect the Colts’ game plan against the Cardinals.
Losing a public fight against Jones for the QB1 spot, Richardson has been a reliable second for the Colts.
Since Richardson isn’t available, sixth-round pick Riley Leonard will play as Daniel Jones’ backup. The 23-year-old is yet to play in a regular-season game.
Jones, who has led the team with confidence, has a passer rating of 105.1 with 1,290 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions this season.
Anthony Richardson is Happy in Indy Despite the QB2 Spot
The Colts, despite their strong roster, might be planning to trade Richardson before the NFL trade deadline in November.
Richardson, speaking of the team’s decision, is focused on his own game. Furthermore, he knows he is loved in Indy.
“It’s always amazing,” Richardson said. “I already know Indy loves me. They give me all the support and love that I need. I love being here. I love going out there and hearing them cheer for me. It makes me feel good; it lets me know that I’m doing something right so I can keep working hard and keep going.”
Of course, there might be a better destination for Richardson’s talent — possibly with an increased role as QB.
