Rams Star Kyren Williams Breaks Silence on Contract Situation, Makes Stance Clear on Training Camp Participation

Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Kyren Williams is seeking a pay raise that reflects his impact on the field.

Over the past two seasons, Kyren Williams has transitioned from a part-time role player to a cornerstone of the Los Angeles Rams’ offense. During this time, he has accumulated over 2,000 all-purpose yards, establishing himself as one of the NFL’s most dynamic young running backs.

As he enters the final year of his rookie contract, Williams and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, seek a salary increase reflecting his impact on the field. However, they have not yet reached a deal with the team.

Why Did Kyren Williams Choose Team Over Contract Leverage?

Although some speculated that Williams might hold out during contract negotiations, he reported to Rams Training Camp on July 22, reaffirming his commitment to the team.

Speaking publicly for the first time since offseason rumors about his future swirled, Williams expressed confidence in his representatives and reiterated his dedication to the Rams. He referred to his decision to report on time as a “no-brainer.”

“For me, there was no decision. I play football, that’s what I do. That’s what I love,” Williams told reporters. “At the end of the day, I do this not for the money. Not for the fame or popularity, but to take care of my family.

“It’s a lot bigger than a contract negotiation,” he added. “It’s putting my feet on the ground and continuing to get better. Keep being who I am as a person, as a player, as an athlete, as a teammate, as a brother.”

When asked about the ongoing negotiations, Williams says there has been “progress” since they began, but he is ready to work regardless of what transpires.

What Progress Has Been Made in Contract Negotiations?

“There’s definitely been progress from when we started in OTAs to where we are now,” Williams said. “I’m not sure when it’s going to get done, but it’s going to get done on God’s timing. I want to play for the Rams. It’s who I want to be with, that’s who I want to stay with. I know it will work out.”

Williams, 24, is entering his fourth season in Los Angeles. He has become the team’s primary running back in recent years, finishing with a career-high 1,299 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns in 2024.

Despite the ongoing negotiations for a new deal, Williams arrived at camp ready to work. The fourth-year back is eager to build on his recent success, and with the Rams retooling their offense, he’s expected to play a pivotal role.

As contract discussions continue behind the scenes, Williams remains committed to delivering another standout season. His display of good faith should ideally lead to a long-term contract extension, but Williams sounds committed to the team regardless of what happens.
