‘The Faith Is Mutual’ — Jets WR Garrett Wilson Makes Feelings Clear on Signing Blockbuster $130M Contract Extension

The New York Jets smartly locked up Garrett Wilson for the future, as the fourth-year receiver is a key asset for a team looking to turn things around.

Garrett Wilson just locked down generational wealth, but his message to Jets fans isn’t about the money. It’s about loyalty, faith, and the quarterback carousel that’s defined his young career. With Justin Fields now under center, Wilson’s $130 million extension represents more than just a payday; it’s a statement about where this franchise is headed.

What Does Garrett Wilson’s $130 Million Deal Mean for the Jets?

Drafted No. 10 overall in 2022, Garrett Wilson has been consistent in his first three years with the team. No NFL player has ever made as much as Wilson has after playing just three seasons in the league. His trio of 1,000-plus receiving yard seasons left the Jets no choice but to pay the 24-year-old.

“Yup, Jets green has been running through me since the day they drafted me,” Wilson said. “Despite the ups and downs, the faith is mutual… that means the world to me. Excited to start a new version of the chase next week. #JetUp”

The Ohio State graduate took to social media one day after he signed a contract with $90 million guaranteed. Wilson played most of his snaps with Zach Wilson in 2022, while Mike White and Joe Flacco were also in the mix.

He thought he’d get Aaron Rodgers in 2023, but the four-time NFL MVP went down on the first drive of the season. Wilson worked with Trevor Siemian and Tim Boyle as the main quarterbacks in 2023 before the receiver enjoyed his time with Rodgers in 2024-25.

How Will Justin Fields Impact Wilson’s Production?

Now, Fields is the man in New York. The Jets are banking on 2021’s No. 11 overall draft pick, who will be on his third team in the last three seasons. Breece Hall and Fields are already getting along, which is a great sign of team chemistry.

While Wilson might not be making as much as Ja’Marr Chase, he did cash in on a contract more than Joe Burrow’s second favorite target, Tee Higgins.

For a player still on a rookie contract, Wilson has remained optimistic about his time in New York. The Jets’ star receiver led the team in receiving yards in 2024-25, as he tied Davante Adams for the most receiving touchdowns.

His seven touchdowns in 2024-25 were as many as he had in 2022-23 combined, which shows how important it is to have a quality quarterback.

Fields might not have more than 20 passing touchdowns in a season, but his ability to run and mix things up in the play-action game should make Wilson one of the most explosive players on the team. Looking for a fourth-straight 1,000-plus yard season, he’ll have to do it with a quarterback who has only eclipsed 2,500 passing yards once in his career.
