Latest on 49ers standouts Trent Williams and Ricky Pearsall as San Francisco prepares for a Wild Card matchup against the Eagles.

The San Francisco 49ers opened Wild Card week with an emphasis on resetting their rhythm and preparing for a Philadelphia Eagles team getting healthy at the right time. The team returned to the practice field on Tuesday as it began on‑field work for Sunday’s game at Lincoln Financial Field, looking to reestablish consistency after an up-and-down finish to the regular season.

The start of the week also brought renewed attention to the 49ers’ injury situation. Two key offensive starters were absent from practice, creating uncertainty as San Francisco begins its postseason run.

Future Hall of Fame left tackle Trent Williams and wide receiver Ricky Pearsall did not participate in Tuesday’s session, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“A couple big ones to watch: 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan tells reporters that Pro Bowl LT Trent Williams (hamstring) and WR Ricky Pearsall (knee) won’t practice today, putting their availability in doubt vs. the Eagles,” Rapoport posted on social media.

Shanahan recently announced that Pearsall aggravated his PCL during the Week 17 contest against the Chicago Bears. Pearsall did participate in three light practice sessions last week, according to reporter David Lombardi, but his status remains uncertain.

Williams’ status remains one of the most significant variables of the week. The 49ers rely heavily on him to anchor the left side of the offensive line, and his absence would force adjustments against an Eagles front that still can generate pressure. Pearsall’s availability is also essential, as he has become a steady contributor in the downfield passing game.

The matchup itself features one of the weekend’s most compelling statistical contrasts. San Francisco enters the postseason with a PFSN Offense Impact score of 85.2, the fourth‑highest mark in the league and a reflection of the unit’s efficiency, explosiveness, and overall consistency when healthy.

Philadelphia counters with a PFSN Defense Impact score of 83.0, seventh in the league, signaling a group that has regained form down the stretch and is capable of dictating tempo at the line of scrimmage. The numbers set the stage for a strength‑on‑strength showdown that could hinge on trench play and the availability of the 49ers’ injured starters.

San Francisco travels to Lincoln Financial Field for a Wild Card matchup against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, January 11, on FOX. The winner will advance to the Divisional Round and keep its postseason hopes alive, while the loser will see its season come to an abrupt end, adding another layer of urgency to an already high‑stakes matchup.
