Despite numerous season-ending injuries, the San Francisco 49ers finished the regular season with a 12-5 record before losing to the Seattle Seahawks 41-6 in the playoffs.
With offseason rumors swirling, the 49ers are predicted to add a veteran in free agency to bolster their thin wide receiver room.
San Francisco 49ers Linked to NFC South Wide Receiver
In PFSN’s NFL Offensive Impact Metric for the 2025 season, the 49ers ranked as the fourth-best offense with an impact score of 85.2 and a letter grade of B. Most impressively, they achieved that without wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle, who suffered a season-ending injury after 11 games.
Looking at PFSN’s NFL Wide Receiver Impact Metric, the performance is even more notable because none of their wide receivers had standout seasons.
In the metric, their highest-ranked wide receiver was Ricky Pearsall, who ranked No. 19 in the league but played only nine games. He was followed by Kendrick Bourne (No. 62), Jauan Jennings (No. 77), and Demarcus Robinson (No. 86). The average impact score of their wide receivers was 73.7.
To address that, Underdog Fantasy’s Hayden Winks predicts that San Francisco will sign a free agent wide receiver from the NFC. He said:
“Mike Evans, 49ers. A breath of fresh air for everyone involved. Mike Evans, he goes back to a contender. For the 49ers, just like a very mature wide receiver that they can build around, I think this one makes a lot of sense for both sides.”

Evans has spent his entire 12-year career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after being selected with the seventh overall pick in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M. During his time with the team, he has been a six-time Pro Bowler and a one-time Super Bowl champion.
Evans has also been one of the most consistent wide receivers in the NFL since entering the league. In 176 career regular-season games, he has 866 receptions for 13,052 receiving yards and 108 touchdowns. In 10 playoff games, he has 52 receptions for 801 receiving yards and six touchdowns. In the regular season, he has topped 1,000 receiving yards every year except one, which came this season when he played only eight games due to injuries.
In PFSN’s Wide Receiver Impact Metric, his best season came in 2023, when he posted an impact score of 84.1 and a letter grade of B after recording 79 receptions for 1,255 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns.
For a team that lacks depth at wide receiver, the 49ers should prioritize Evans in the upcoming free agency cycle.
