3-Time NFL All-Pro WR Shockingly Released and Weighing Free-Agency Options

A 3-time All-Pro wide receiver has surprisingly asked for and been granted his release. Now, he’ll be an NFL free agent with a number of suitors.

An 11-year NFL veteran wide receiver has decided to move along from his current team. The player has proven to be a steady hand with 62 career touchdowns for two different teams.

But on Monday, this player has chosen to seek a new role with a new team.

Which NFL Wide Receiver Is Leaving His Current Team?

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Tyler Lockett, who was with the Tennessee Titans, has asked for and received his release from the team. He is now a free agent.

For the Titans this season, Lockett appeared in seven games and started one. He had 10 catches for 70 yards and no touchdowns. He was in his first season with the Titans after playing 10 seasons for the Seattle Seahawks.

In the PFSN NFL WR Impact metrics, Lockett had a 51.7 Impact Score and graded out at an F while being ranked 81st receiver in the league. He’s proven to be reliable for most of his career, so any NFL team that needs a wide receiver probably will take a look at picking Lockett up for the rest of the 2025 NFL season.

As a rookie in the 2015 NFL season, Lockett earned first-team All-Pro recognition at wide receiver. In his first season with the Seahawks, he played in 16 games and started eight of them. Lockett had 51 catches for 664 yards and six touchdown receptions.

In the 2016 and 2017 seasons, Lockett picked up second-team All-Pro honors. He has caught 10 touchdown passes twice in his career in 2018 and 2020, both with the Seahawks. Lockett’s best career yardage-wise was in 2021, when he amassed 1,175 yards in catches.

This season, the Titans, behind No. 1 2025 NFL Draft choice Cam Ward at quarterback, have gotten off to an awful start. Tennessee is currently 1-6 for the season and just played its first game under interim head coach Mike McCoy, which was another loss. Brian Callahan was fired after getting off to a 1-5 start and that wasn’t good enough to save his job.

For Lockett, this gives him an opportunity to find a team that probably has a better record to finish out this season. He probably does not want to end this season with such an awful statistical total from his time with the Titans. Also, Tennessee might be more focused with its younger players and seeing what they have going forward.

Lockett, as a veteran, doesn’t fit into that picture so he is now free to move along.
