‘He Got the Same Mindset’ — Ravens WR Zay Flowers Hints at How New OC Declan Doyle Will Transform His Role

After back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, Ravens WR Zay Flowers expects to see an uptick in usage under new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle.

Even after back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns, Baltimore Ravens wideout Zay Flowers is still on an upward trajectory.

He’s the key component to a Ravens offense that’s led by Lamar Jackson under center, Mark Andrews at tight end, and Derrick Henry in the backfield. Flowers is at the helm of the team’s receiving corps, and with the addition of new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, the 25-year-old is only just scratching the surface of what he can be.

Zay Flowers Could See Major Uptick in Usage in 2026

For the second season in a row, Flowers played in all 17 games for the Ravens and surpassed 1,100 yards from scrimmage. Not only is he weaponized in the passing attack, but he’s rushed 27 times for 174 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his three-year career.

Flowers is an ascending player, that much is for certain. The addition of Doyle, who was the Chicago Bears’ offensive coordinator a season ago, could help him blossom even further.

In an appearance on the “4th And South” podcast with Jarvis Landry and Leonard Fournette, Flowers attributed the sky-high aspirations to Doyle being close in age to that of Jackson.

“He’s [Doyle] the same age as Lamar, he’s like 28, 29,” Flowers guessed. “He might have the same mentality as us. Explosive, let’s go chase them. Whether it’s a run, pass, I don’t care what it is, as long as we’re explosive, bro, he’s got the same mindset.”

Even with three 120-plus-yard performances under his belt last season, there were still times when Flowers’ utilization came into question. He saw six or fewer targets in a game nine times, and caught five or fewer passes in a game 10 times.

Under Doyle, “There’s gonna be a little bit more usage,” Flowers affirmed.

Doyle, who just turned 30 last month, is seen as one of the most promising young coaches in the NFL today. Although he served as coordinator in Chicago last season, this move to the Ravens represents a significant step forward in his career, giving him full responsibility for play-calling. He didn’t have that opportunity with the Bears, as play-calling duties were handled by head coach Ben Johnson.

Before joining the Bears, Doyle built his professional foundation working with Sean Payton, first with the New Orleans Saints and then as a tight ends coach with the Denver Broncos.

In 2025, he was a key player in Chicago’s offensive evolution, helping quarterback Caleb Williams in his consolidation year and elevating the team’s offense from the bottom of the league to the top 10 in total yards. Their monumental step forward in the first season under Johnson also saw the Bears rank No. 10 in PFSN’s Offense Impact Metric.
