Zack Moss Week 15 Start/Sit: Fantasy Outlook for Colts RB vs. the Steelers

Zack Moss has failed to deliver on an elite fantasy football role in consecutive games -- should you run from him or toward him in Week 15?

Is Zack Moss a fantasy football league-winner or the first line on the tombstone after your team’s season ends earlier than expected? The last two weeks have suggested the latter, but could we see a dominant performance from the Indianapolis Colts RB in Week 15 against the Pittsburgh Steelers?

Should You Start Zack Moss in Week 15?

The process continues to be right, and the results wrong. It’s not ideal, but I’m stubborn, and I would suggest you be too.

Moss saw eight targets last week, and I expect that level of usage in the passing game to be sustained against the fourth blitz-heaviest defense in the league in the Steelers. He was a top-10 RB in four of his first five games this season, and the recent usage suggests that a return to that form is not only possible but closer to likely.

Even if you don’t think Moss is an elite talent, you’re playing him due to his opportunity. Can we agree that he has at least as much juice as the current version of Ezekiel Elliott? The same Ezekiel Elliott that racked up 140 yards and a score against these Steelers last week?

Hang tight — starting Moss is still the percentage play, and that’s what this time of year is all about in fantasy: giving yourself the best chance to win given the data we have at our disposal.

Should You Start Moss or Jahmyr Gibbs?

I have Jahmyr Gibbs ranked higher this week, but the biggest mistake you can make in this decision is benching, either!

Gibbs takes on the worst yards-per-carry run defense in the league and has flashed his versatility with 40 targets over his past seven games. David Montgomery might get the high-leverage touches inside the 10-yard line, but Gibbs’ explosive nature and strong touch floor is a combination I prefer over a player in Moss, who I view as less explosive.

If you have both — congratulations on moving on to the second round of your playoffs!

Should You Start Moss or David Montgomery?

Give me Moss here. While Montgomery is in the same favorable spot that I detailed for Gibbs above, I don’t trust his versatility or explosiveness in the same way.

Montgomery has caught a total of four passes over his past three games and has just one game with more than 15 carries in his past six. I give him a little more scoring equity than Moss, given my optimism for the Lions offense as a whole, but he’s operating at a greater deficit when it comes to touch and target count. Montgomery is a very good play, while Moss is a great one.
