Will Xavier Worthy Play in Week 6? Latest on Chiefs Star’s Injury Status for Game vs. Lions

The ͏Kansas ͏City Chiefs are keeping a close eye on wide receiver Xavier Worthy’s health as͏ they prepare for͏ Sunday night’s matchup against the Detroit Lions. ͏After an injury-͏filled start to his sophomore NFL campaign, the team’s͏ recent practice reports have sparked new uncertainty about his Week 6 status.͏

    Xavier Worthy Injury Update

Kansas City Chiefs wide͏ receiver͏ Worthy did not practice Thursday due to͏ ankle and shoulder issues, according to the Chiefs’ official site. This update comes a day after the 2024 first-round pick practiced without limitations on Wednesday, suggesting Thursday’s absence could be͏ ͏a precautionary measure rather than a setback.

Worthy returned to practice on Friday and is expected to play in Week 6, barring any late setbacks.

Worthy’s early season has been defined by injury interruptions. He missed Weeks 2 and 3 after suffering a shoulder injury in a collision with teammate Travis Kelce during Week 1. More recently, ͏he dealt with ankle ͏swelling ahead of Monday’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Despite that, Worthy managed a productive outing, catching six passes without showing visible effects from the injury.

Zachary Knerr of͏ PFSN offered more insight in his recent report, pointing out that Worthy struggled to make an ͏impact early against͏ Jacksonville. According to͏ K͏nerr, the receiver managed only two catches on three targets from Patrick͏ Mahomes͏ for a net loss ͏of one yard, marking a disappointing first-half ͏performance.

Kne͏rr contrasted this with Worthy’s͏ breakout game against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4, ͏when he hauled in five receptions for 83 yards ͏after returning from his shoulder injury. He also added eight rushing yards on two carries, including a 35-yard end-around.

Adding to the timeline, NFL reporter Cameron Wolfe shared an important update hours before the Jaguars game. “Xavier Worthy expected to play tonight despite dealing with some ankle swelling yesterday, per source,” Wolfe reported on X.

His post confirmed that the Chiefs were aware of the swelling, which reportedly developed after the team’s flight, yet still cleared the young receiver to play.

Given that Worthy was a full participant in practice throughout the week before being labeled questionable, the Chiefs’ decision to rest him may indicate a maintenance strategy rather than a new concern.

While ͏his health remains under scrutiny,͏ Worthy’s value to the͏ Chiefs offense is undeniable. His explosive playmaking was evident during the Chiefs͏’ Super Bowl 59 game, where he͏ tallied 157 yards͏ and two ͏touchdowns. The team lost, but his performance was a statement of his abilities.

As the Chiefs navigate ͏early-͏season challenges without suspended receiver Rash͏e͏e Rice, Worthy͏’s ability ͏to ͏stay on the field͏ could be crucial to maintaining ͏offensive ͏rhythm.
