While the Kansas City Chiefs haven’t looked the best to start the season, they have also been missing a few key pieces of the offense. While they still await the return of wide receiver Rashee Rice, there was concern that Xavier Worthy would also be unavailable due to various injuries.
While he was able to play, the second-year wideout has had a slow start to the Week 5 Monday Night contest.
What Happened to Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy?
Yes, Chiefs WR Worthy is officially active and has played against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Despite being able to play, Worthy has done worse than if he had stayed on the sideline in the first half. The wideout has caught two of three targets from quarterback Patrick Mahomes and lost a yard. This is a bit underwhelming as he went off for 83 yards on five receptions against the Ravens in Week 4 after missing most of the first three weeks of 2025.
Worthy appeared on the injury report on Sunday and was listed as questionable for the game with an ankle injury. This isn’t his first time in 2025 on the injury report, as he did not play in Weeks 2 and 3 due to a shoulder injury. He returned to action against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4.
Hours before the game, NFL reporter Cameron Wolfe confirmed that the Chiefs’ star is expected to play against the Jaguars. “Xavier Worthy expected to play tonight despite dealing with some ankle swelling yesterday, per source,” he wrote on X.

The Chiefs will see how Worthy feels at stadium to confirm. But he’s expected to be good to go. https://t.co/3G1jGpEEvO

Worthy experienced some swelling after the team’s flight, but the hope was that he could play. He was a full participant in practice all week before being labeled questionable on Sunday. Worthy had an encouraging rookie season and has become an essential piece of Kansas City’s offense, especially with Rice still suspended. This was on full display in the Super Bowl, when he had 157 yards and two touchdowns.
The Chiefs are no strangers to pressure and have responded well to their early-season challenges. Worthy’s return helps, but Kansas City needs him to break out of his first-half funk to help stave off the surging Jaguars. Mahomes got a hot start; let’s see if the second-year receiver can match him.
