In what might be a de facto playoff-deciding game, the Kansas City Chiefs have been exceptionally underwhelming against the Indianapolis Colts. An interception on the second play of the game was a microcosm of how the day had gone for them.
After ending the first half trailing by five, the second half started off in brutal fashion for the Chiefs. As the offense went three-and-out, they also suffered an injury to star wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
What Happened to Xavier Worthy?
A rough offensive night for Kansas City, particularly in the end zone, turned even worse in the second half. They weren’t able to get any movement going, but fans in Arrowhead were treated to a worrying sight as the team came off the field.
Nate Taylor of ESPN confirmed on X, “Xavier Worthy hobbled off the field & threw his helmet. Clearly in a lot of pain.” On the injury report throughout the week, the second-year wide receiver was questionable coming into the game.
However, with the season on the line, Kansas City opted to keep him in the lineup. Fortunately for the Chiefs, Worthy returned to the game on the next drive. Unfortunately, his return couldn’t salvage what continued to be a brutal night for the organization.
He added one more catch in the third quarter to bring his total to three catches for 38 receiving yards. But the overall struggles of the offense continued, as a lost fumble from Kareem Hunt ended the drive in the red zone.
Ranked 47th on PFSN’s WR Impact for the second consecutive season, Worthy hadn’t played as big a role for the team as his rookie season. With most of the wide receiving core, he became their de facto number one.
As a result, he was able to total 638 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 2024. This year, though, his numbers dropped to 281 yards and one touchdown after eight games.
