LSU vs. Auburn Prediction and Preview
LSU boasts remarkable depth this season. In their 103-63 demolition of Alabama on Feb. 1, six different players scored in double figures, and every player on the roster found the scoring column.
Sophomore guard Jada Richard has emerged as a valuable contributor, leading the team with 16 points against Alabama. Freshman ZaKiyah Johnson, a top-15 national recruit, and Notre Dame transfer Kate Koval (6’5″ forward) have provided interior presence.
LSU leads the country in three statistical categories: bench points per game (41.1), rebound margin (+18.7), and scoring offense (97.4). That scoring average would break the NCAA record set by Providence in 1991 if maintained through the end of the season.
Mulkey is 5-1 against Auburn during her LSU tenure, with the only loss coming at Neville Arena in January 2024 (67-62). LSU has won six of the last seven meetings overall.
That doesn’t bode well for an Auburn (13-11, 2-8 SEC) team navigating a difficult first season under head coach Larry Vickers, who inherited a program that lost its entire roster to transfers or graduation following the firing of Johnnie Harris.

Despite dropping five straight games, this Auburn team does boast some exceptional talent.
Freshman guard Harissoum Coulibaly has been a revelation in her first collegiate season. The Paris native leads Auburn in scoring at 10.9 points per game while shooting a team-best 52.6% from the field. Meanwhile, redshirt junior Kaitlyn Duhon is one of the conference’s premier defenders, ranking third in the SEC and 14th nationally with 3.4 steals per game.
The Tigers’ defensive identity centers on creating chaos, ranking second in the SEC in steals, but they’ve struggled offensively, averaging just 61.0 points per game (271st nationally). Against an LSU team that scores at a historic pace, Auburn will need to turn this into a grinding, half-court affair and force turnovers to have any chance.
Still, the talent disparity is simply too vast. LSU’s depth, firepower, and experience should overwhelm an Auburn team still finding its footing.
Mulkey won’t allow her squad to sleepwalk through this game with South Carolina looming next week. Expect the Tigers to impose their will early and pull away in the second half as their superior conditioning and bench production take over.
Prediction: LSU 89, Auburn 58
