‘The Censors Are Never the Good Guys’ — XX-XY CEO Issues Scathing Message After Liberty Refused To Run a Message Amid Trans-Athlete Debate

XX-XY CEO Jennifer Sey recently spoke out on the Liberty incident as the heavily debated trans-athlete controversy continues to gain momentum.

A dispute appears to have taken place between fans ahead of the New York Liberty’s Saturday night clash against the Indiana Fever. According to Jackson Thompson of OutKick, a woman named Julie Potter purchased 25 tickets to the game, along with $100 to display a message on the scoreboard at halftime.

Her message was intended to read, “Thank you Jennifer Sey! XX-XY Athletics will Save the Day!!”

However, Potter is now speaking out, arguing that her message had been altered after her payment was accepted. It now states, “Thank you Jennifer Sey, thank you for all you do for XX-XY Athletics.”

Sey herself stepped up to defend Potter after she voiced her frustration.

As reported by Thompson via X, formerly Twitter, “A woman says the NY Liberty tried to change a scoreboard message she paid for to support XX-XY Athletics, with the team saying the messages ‘are limited to positive, celebratory content,’ and any that ‘violate that spirit are not eligible for display.'”

In response to the noise, Sey shared Thompson’s article on Potter and stated, “The @WNBA and the teams in the league keep censoring anything having to do with the save women’s sports movement and @xx_xyathletics.”

XX-XY Athletics, founded by Sey, adheres to the following statement:

“Women deserve the opportunities that sports and single sex spaces provide. Sex matters. It is the single biggest determinant of athletic performance. It is unfair and dangerous to allow males (XY) to compete in girls and women’s (XX) sports. For women to compete safely and fairly, women’s sports need to remain female. We’ll be here defending the truth. And women and girls. Until that happens.”

The heavily debated topic of transgender athletes partaking in women’s sports hasn’t settled, and it likely won’t for quite some time due to the current climate of the WNBA. Sophie Cunningham’s statement last month triggered a wide range of emotions, and it appears as though she has the support of the entire WNBA community.

While the league navigates the mayhem, the Liberty is gearing up for its clash against the Fever. The game will commence at 7 p.m. ET at Barclays Center in New York.

As controversy continues to surround the league, teams have no choice but to drown out the noise on the court.
