Caitlin Clark Speaks on Disappointing Loss vs. Golden State Valkyries

During the postgame interview, Clark shared her candid take on the loss, not mincing words as she reflected on her team and their errors. Clark (via ESPN’s Kendra Andrews) said:

“Overall I thought they played harder, and that’s the worst way to lose. So that’s disappointing for our group.”

Andrews included that Kelsey Mitchell described their performance as “soft,” hinting that the loss has probably humbled their team a little.

Speaking on Clark and how the loss reflects on them, Mitchell added:

“I think that overall it’s not just about Caitlin specifically. I thought it was our entire group. We were soft. They made us pay by being stronger and tougher…we allowed it. Kinda tucked our tail a little bit tonight on the aggression side.”

Clark Delivers Her Verdict on Chase Center’s Atmosphere

While the Fever lost, it was a special game as Clark, who played at Chase Center for the first time. Clark was quick to appreciate the venue and Bay Area fans who hyped her up.

“I thought it was great. The crowd was into it. They were loud. Yeah, you gotta give them a lot of credit,” she said after the game. “A really fun place to play, so, I’m certainly looking to coming back as well.”

Clark, previously out for multiple games due to her quad strain, is still finding her footing as the WNBA season progresses. Usually posting over 15-20 points per game, Clark finished with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 9 assists. Aliyah Boston led the team with 17 points, while Mitchell followed with 16.

Kayla Thornton led the Valkyries with 16 points, whereas Chloe Bibby’s impressive debut sweetened the deal.

With the Fever headed to the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Final against the Minnesota Lynx on July 1, fans are hoping Clark bounces back in short order.

Indiana will face the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday in an attempt to get back into the win column.
