‘Very Concerning,’ ‘It’s a Problem’ — WNBA World Sounds Alarm Over Caitlin Clark’s ‘Lack of Growth’ in Year 3

Many WNBA and Caitlin Clark fans were left underwhelmed by her season opening performance against the Dallas Wings.

Indiana Fever star point guard Caitlin Clark made her much-anticipated return to regular season action in nearly a year against the Dallas Wings. The Fever vs Wings matchup was one of the WNBA’s marquee games during the regular season’s opening weekend and didn’t disappoint. The same can’t be said for Clark, however, as a strong performance on paper actually left many fans underwhelmed.

WNBA Fans Sound Off On Caitlin Clark’s Mixed Performance Against Wings

Women’s basketball social media account I talk Hoops was among those underwhelmed by Clark’s performance against the Wings. They said on X: “Caitlin Clark’s three-point shooting over her last eight WNBA games: 2 – for – 9 (today) 1 – for -7 2 – for – 7 1 – for – 7 2 – for – 5 0 – for – 6 1 – for – 10 0 – for 7 That’s 9 – for – 58 (15.5%) from three over her last eight WNBA games.”

Clark finished the Fever’s 107-104 home loss to the Wings with 20 points, five rebounds, and seven assists. However, she also had five turnovers and shot 7-18 from the field and 2-9 from three.

Famous sports commentator and vocal Clark supporter Jason Whitlock expressed his disappointment on X, saying, “For those of us Caitlin Clark groupies that was a very concerning first quarter. Clark’s handle has not improved. It’s a problem.”

Clark struggled with her shot in the opening period, but found some rhythm at the free throw line.

KenHeLive said on X “The lack of growth in Caitlin Clark’s game 3 years in is concerning.”

Associate men’s college basketball coach Head Coach Jason Maples said “Year 3 and Caitlin Clark won’t go to the cup left or take a jump shot going right.”

While considered a prolific scorer, Clark is entering her third WNBA season as a career 40.5% shooter from the field, which suggests there’s room for improvement.

Basketball content creator Mick said “There has been a lot of growth. Live ball Turnovers down, defense when locked in is actually decent. But she has somehow got worse at all the things that made her an All-WNBA first team player.”
