‘Two Goats at the Same Damn Time’ — WNBA Fans React to Viral Sabrina Ionescu and Jackie Chan Picture After Liberty’s 5th Straight Win

A picture of Jackie Chan and Sabrina Ionescu posing together from the latest New York Liberty game went viral. Find out what the fans had to say about it.

The New York Liberty aren’t just defending champions; they’re also telling the league that the crown still fits.

After going 1-1 in the preseason, the Liberty are now locked in, extending their regular-season win streak to five with a dominant victory, 82-77, over the Golden State Valkyries on May 29.

But while fans were thrilled to see their team continue its 2024 championship momentum, another highlight stole the show—a surprise courtside appearance from global action icon Jackie Chan.

Fans Were Starstruck With Jackie Chan’s Presence Alongside Sabrina Ionescu

Yes, that Jackie Chan. The martial arts legend. The star of over 100 movies. The man who once leapt off skyscrapers for real. He showed up at Barclays Center for his first-ever WNBA game.

But it wasn’t just his presence that had the internet buzzing. A now-viral pregame photo of Chan posing with Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu sent fans into a frenzy.

The image perfectly captured a cross-generational, cross-industry collision of greatness — one from the silver screen, the other from the hardwood.

Chan, whose career spans decades with legendary martial arts and action film performances, is widely recognized as one of the greatest stunt performers and actors ever.

On the other hand, Ionescu is carving her legacy in the WNBA. A three-time All-Star and one of the league’s brightest faces, fresh off leading New York to a championship last season. The side-by-side snapshot felt like a meeting of titans — one a master of the screen, the other of the court.

“Two goats at the same damn time,” wrote one fan.

The reactions didn’t stop at clever captions. Fans broke out the GIFs, too. The viral post from the WNBA’s official X handle featured a behind-the-scenes GIF from Rush Hour, showing Chan and co-star Chris Tucker laughing together — a visual echo of the joy fans felt seeing Chan and Ionescu connect.

The combination of nostalgia and current WNBA excitement made it one of the most memorable posts of the night.

It’s no stretch to assume that Chan’s appearance at a basketball game, particularly a WNBA game, has been a long-time wish for many.

As a beloved cultural figure with global appeal, his support of the league sends a powerful message. His presence wasn’t just a celebrity drop-in; it felt like a long-overdue recognition that fans appreciated.

“Finally,” said another fan.

While most fans were busy celebrating the iconic link-up between Chan and Ionescu, one fan took a playful detour with their reaction, comparing the moment to a past power pairing: MLB legend Alex Rodriguez and star Jennifer Lopez.

“Telling my kids this was Alex Rodriguez and JLo,” wrote the user.

While the Liberty continues to dominate on the court, moments like these help grow the game off it.

Ionescu herself was starstruck on meeting Jackie Chan

While fans often find themselves starstruck when meeting WNBA players, this time it was the WNBA star who couldn’t believe her luck.

During a post-game interview, Ionescu was asked what it was like to meet the iconic action star and martial arts legend. Ionescu didn’t miss a beat and had the perfect answer.

“I can’t believe it was really him. I feel like I’ve just grown up watching so many of his movies. He’s like so in character—honestly, probably one of my favorite actors. He’s so funny. And being able to see him in real life was pretty surreal,” said Ionescu.

In Liberty’s fifth regular-season game, Ionescu delivered a stellar performance, helping her team secure the win with 24 points, six rebounds, and four assists. She’ll look to carry that momentum forward when the Liberty face the Washington Mystics on May 30.
