Sophie Cunningham can’t escape the viral finger-pointing meme that she created following a heated confrontation with Phoenix Mercury forward DeWanna Bonner on June 22.
On Tuesday evening, the White House, via X, recreated the viral meme showing U.S. President Donald Trump pointing his finger at the camera and smiling.
The Indiana Fever star inevitably answered questions when asked to comment on the latest rendition of her action to troll Bonner.

After dealing with an illness, Cunningham reported for practice at the Fever’s facility. She took the attention in stride when asked to comment on the White House’s X post.
“I think everyone around the world is posting it. … I don’t really think twice about it. They’re just another group that’s posting about it,” Cunningham said.

The Cunningham-Bonner confrontation happened in the fourth quarter after Bonner got entangled with Fever superstar Caitlin Clark. While Clark was called for a foul and then a technical foul, Bonner got away scot-free.
This prompted a viral exchange between Cunningham and Bonner.

In her “Show Me Something” podcast on Monday, Cunningham shared how things escalated.
“I was literally talking to the refs. … I was like, ‘Now, Caitlin got (a technical foul), but why didn’t (Bonner) get one?’ I was just pointing and (Bonner’s) like, ‘Don’t you point at me!’ And I was like, ‘Aw, (you) shouldn’t have said that.’ And I didn’t say a word.”
Cunningham added what she thought of her action:
“So stupid. That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever done. Everyone’s like, ‘That is so dumb.’ I think it’s dumb! But, like, it was pissing her off, and, like, I couldn’t help myself.”
Interestingly, Cunningham and Bonner played together in Phoenix in 2019, Cunningham’s rookie season.
They were teammates again in Indiana in 2025 before Bonner forced her way out to sign with the Mercury.
Although the Fever guard only limited herself to pointing at Bonner, she still received a technical foul. She called the referees’ decision to give her that penalty “the weakest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”
Despite labeling her action the “stupidest thing,” the finger-pointing quickly became a fan favorite on social media.
Cunningham’s co-host, West Wilson, announced in the podcast that it was the No. 1 meme on Twitter.
When asked by reporters to name which meme caught her attention the most, Cunningham responded.
“The Statue of Liberty. Dude, that is my favorite one.”
In that meme, Cunningham’s face was morphed with the Statue of Liberty, and in her hand is a tablet that reads “Don’t You Point At Me.”
The sweet-shooting guard has become a huge star since joining the Fever last year. She first drew WNBA observers’ attention when she played the enforcer role to protect Clark.
Now, she has become a star of her own, with no less than the White House riding her coattails.
