WNBA star Paige Bueckers isn’t taking it easy during the league’s offseason. She even had time to declare her allegiance to a Premier League Soccer team, which might spark heated debates among her colleagues.

Paige Bueckers Is A Gunner: Wings Star Declares Allegiance to Arsenal

Dallas Wings guard Bueckers is in the midst of her first offseason as a professional. From the looks of things, she’s keeping just as busy as she has during her rookie season. That includes taking in other professional sports matches, which led to a surprising appearance by Bueckers at a Premier League match on Sunday (Oct. 26). She was seen supporting Arsenal, which defeated Crystal Palace 1-0.

Bueckers was at the Emirates Stadium in North London, the Gunners’ home field,
to watch the team take on Crystal Palace. Before the match got underway, she stopped by the official pre-match show for Arsenal, Live From N5. At the one-hour mark, she was asked if she had ever been to a Premier League match before, to which she stated it was her first time.

“This is my first [Premier League match]. It’s a great field with a great crowd, and I’m just excited to be here,” Bueckers said, which led host Nicole Holliday to ask slyly, “So I’m guessing you’re not an Arsenal supporter yet, Paige?” Without hesitation, Bueckers replied, “I’m becoming one. I’m becoming one.” That response got the in-studio crowd fired up.

The former UConn Huskie also talked about the game’s popularity among her WNBA teammates and others in the league. “We’re huge NWSL supporters, that’s the league that we go to games, I’ve got a couple of friends in the league, so I think football is continuing to grow,” she said.

The Wings star also spoke about having a love of the game from her younger days. “When I was younger, I was into all athletics, and I played with the boys all the time during recesses,” she said, according to reporting from MARCA. “I played all the sports like football, soccer, baseball, and basketball. Basketball was something I could work on downstairs in the garage where I lived, and I guess it grew from there.”

Bueckers is making the most of catching events in the offseason, having recently attended the Dallas Cowboys’ win over the Washington Commanders the week before. Before she arrived in London, she attended an event for the University of Connecticut’s women’s basketball team.

Bueckers attended the match along with another major celebrity, rock legend Jon Bon Jovi, who also appeared on Live From N5 earlier. When asked to give a match prediction, the 24-year-old went for Arsenal winning 4 – 1, after which she was given a team scarf and declared an official fan.

The Wings guard also shared earlier that she had just arrived in London that morning and took the Underground to the Emirates to catch the game. She and the 60,700 other fans in attendance saw Arsenal triumphant over Crystal Palace with a 1-0 score, holding onto their lead position in the Premier League.

Her allegiance is sure to spark some heavy debate, with other Premier League teams such as Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City having had more success among stateside professional basketball players within the past few years.
