When Caitlin Clark was coming out of college at Iowa, there was no debate as to who would be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Ever since arriving in the league, she’s carried over her college momentum, becoming a three-time All-Star in the process.
But of course, Clark also has her fair share of skeptics and critics. Yet, anyone doubting Clark’s impact on the court would be foolish to do so, because she’s been rewriting the WNBA history books ever since.
Clark Makes WNBA History for Points, Assists
While she’s become well-known for having unlimited range and hitting shots from great distances, the Indiana Fever star has other talents too. Like ranking second in the WNBA with 8.0 assists per game.
Now, she’s made WNBA history in both categories: points and assists.
In Friday night’s 112-98 win over the Portland Fire, Clark made history by reaching 1,500 points and 500 assists in just 78 games. That’s quicker than any other player in WNBA history.

The WNBA world was quick to react to Clark literally making history. One commenter called her a “game changer… quite literally.”

Meanwhile, one X user said that Minnesota Lynx star rookie Olivia Miles will just break Clark’s records someday anyway.

Another commenter did some quick math, pointing out that Clark accomplished these feats in just under two full seasons of play.

The scary part is that the 24-year-old is just getting started; she may not even be in her prime yet.
Diana Taurasi is the WNBA’s all-time leader with 10,646 points scored in her career. Clark has a long way to go to reach the future Hall of Famer, as she’s sitting with 1,524 points, but she’s off to a hot start.
If Clark can stay healthy and continue ranking among the league leaders in scoring, she’ll have a chance at quickly climbing the WNBA’s all-time scoring leaders list. But for now, she has a long way to go.
