Olivia Miles Savagely Downplays First-Ever Matchup vs. Caitlin Clark With Dismissive Remark About Fever Star

Olivia Miles downplayed her first WNBA matchup with Caitlin Clark and turned the spotlight to Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell instead.

The first WNBA matchup between Caitlin Clark and Olivia Miles was one of the biggest storylines heading into Sunday’s Indiana Fever-Minnesota Lynx game.

However, Miles didn’t have much to say about Clark. Instead, the Lynx rookie quickly shifted the spotlight to Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell.

The Lynx entered Target Center riding a nine-game winning streak. The Fever had won five straight behind Clark’s career-best scoring run. In the end, the Lynx kept their momentum going with a 108-100 victory to extend their winning streak to 10 games.

Miles had one of her best games of the season. The 23-year-old guard, who was selected No. 2 overall by the Lynx in the 2026 WNBA Draft, finished with 28 points on a blistering 11-of-14 shooting.

She also added 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 1 block as the Lynx secured their 25th win of the season.

ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe asked Miles what it felt like to go head-to-head with Clark for the first time. Miles didn’t really talk about Clark at all. Instead, she gushed about Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell.

“It’s so fun playing with great guards. You know, Kelsey Mitchell is really the one that’s killing us right now. I’m just kind of in awe watching her. This is low-key my welcome to the W moment just trying to guard her. But it’s so fun. We have respect for each other. So it’s fun.”

Mitchell certainly earned that praise. The Fever guard erupted for 37 points, marking her fifth 30-point game of the season. She also extended her streak to 14 straight games with at least 20 points, the second-longest such streak in WNBA history behind only A’ja Wilson.

Clark did her part as well, putting together another solid performance despite the loss. The Fever star finished with 19 points and 10 assists for another double-double, but Indiana couldn’t overcome the Lynx’s balanced attack, led by Miles.

Miles, meanwhile, is having a huge rookie season. She recently became the fastest player in WNBA history to record 400 points, 100 rebounds, and 100 assists (22 games).

The former TCU star is widely viewed as the early favorite for Rookie of the Year and has even entered the MVP conversation thanks to her strong all-around play.

Sunday’s game was the first meeting between Miles and Clark in the WNBA, but they aren’t done with each other this year.

The Lynx and Fever are set to meet again in a late-September back-to-back series, giving the two young stars another chance to face off just before the playoffs.
